We recently connected with The Hazy Chambers and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, The Hazy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
J.M. : I started learning my craft by teaching myself guitar in ninth grade and playing along to Beatles songs for hours on end. Once I got to college I finally began to write my own material and learn more about the process of music production and theory. In retrospect I think I could have sped up the learning process by jamming with other people more rather than playing by myself in my room. I could have learned some useful skills earlier on if I played with other people more. Now that I have learned that skill through experience I think it is a very essential skill to have especially for being in a band with other musicians with unique playing styles.
Josh: I’ve studied Audio Engineering, Drumming and Filmmaking since middle school but didn’t start getting serious about it til around 2016. When I started playing in bands and making more music videos and analyzing different aspects of those things more in depth amongst other subjects. Also I Make and sell diamond jewelry/grillz
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We’re The Hazy Chambers and we’re a psychedelic rock band based in Garland, TX. In October of 2021, after playing in a previous band we decided to collaborate and start this project. We create works inspired heavily by the psychedelic era of the late-60s and early 70s, while also dabbling in the harder progressive era of the early 90s. With the help of our wickedly talented bass player, DeathofCupid, we play live shows all throughout the DFW area in venues such as Andys Bar, Growl Records, Killers Tacos and many more.
We’re a self-sufficient band that makes 100% of our own content when it comes to music production, videos and art work. So far we have released four singles, four music videos with our first album, Vol. 1, releasing on February 24th. Three of our singles have also featured on 97.1 The Eagle on Loud and Local
We take pride in the overall work and brand we have been creating and seeing it come to life through our content and live experience.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
We think the most rewarding aspect is seeing a song start as a simple idea and witnessing it evolve into a final product. These initial ideas come from a introspective place that we believe that other other people can relate to on a spiritual level. Spreading our music on the internet and knowing that other people are out there listening and possibly getting something out it gives us a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. We aim to inspire future artists who might be out there listening.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We both were in a band together a few years ago in which we released an album and made music videos as well as playing shows around the DFW area. However, that project disbanded leaving us in a weird limbo period. We played a couple shows with another band for a short time but we decided it would be best to start our own project from the ground up. We share a similar vision and this decision made the most sense to us given this sudden change in course of our career. And thus, The Hazy Chambers was born.
