Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The GroupChat L!VE. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi The GroupChat L!VE, thanks for joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
The road to get to where we are has been full of twists and turns that we never would have imagined. Although we are continuing to grow, we are grateful to have experienced the trials to get to where we are today. If we had to start again, we would first take group dynamics into consideration. Working cohesively as a group plays vital role in the success of a business venture. Personalities and work ethic differs among individuals, therefore everyone being on the same page and contributing equal amounts of effort can make or break a business venture. In other words, even though you are great friends with someone does not mean individuals will make productive business partners. Another factor in financial success and the growth of a business is consistency. It took us over a year to understand the importance of consistency. Once we became consistent our fan base started to grow. It was an awesome feeling to hear listeners say “I look forward to hearing y’all every Friday.” Our listeners know they could depend on us to get a good laugh no matter what they experienced throughout the week.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a group of three single black women in our early 30s. We decided to create a podcast based on our text group chat because many of our experiences with dating, mental health, sex, careers, and alternative lifestyles were unbelievable. We wanted to develop a space in which women like us could identify, relate, and feel free to voice their opinions and stories free from judgment. The market has become oversaturated with podcasts, but it is important to us to use our unique personalities to stay true to our vision.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A year into our podcast, our group of five split up. It was unexpected and unfortunate because outside of the podcast we were all very close friends. The split changed all of our lives, and we were unsure if we could sustain our previous level of success. We continued on through rebranding, and sought out networking opportunities that aligned with our vision, and our podcast began to grow.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
We never passed on invitations and opportunities to network with diverse audiences. After about a period of six months we then began to hone in on a specific market of listeners. We were able to grow because we tailored our show to the audience we wanted to gain.
