We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Group Sensation a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, The Group Sensation thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
I didn’t think we’d make anything from our music at all online , like that wasn’t even in the picture. I always that we’d be ending up just selling merch and cd’s while performing. The 1.36 we made came as a surprise fr and I was excited fr and it came from a place that I thought we’d most likely never make money, that being Youtube. When I saw the change that’s when I knew we had something worthwhile in investing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We started The Group Sensation around 2015 when Gavin Riley and Musa Andrews met at a local library in North Philadelphia where Gavin worked at and Hiro was always frequent. They started collaborating on music together that Hiro(Musa) wrote and produced the rough recording and production of which Garthom(Gavin) would tinker with. Years went on until 2022 when Gavin left the group making Hiro search high and low for a singer in which he found in a female singer songwriter named billie the zombie slayer who recorded several tracks on Sensation with those being Popstar, Brand new feeling and Heaven did you wait for me being the most notable. After The albums release Hiro wasn’t able to keep in contact with Billie and have her commit now Hiro does open mics and collabs with a singer called Benny P of the cutie pies doing performances. We make Indie Alternative/Rock/Pop and Hip Hop music that’s talks about certain themes that the music industry doesn’t talk about(well atleast anymore). We do everything diy and that means we have no entity attached to us, The only thing we half to worry about is the social media platform other than that there are no strings attached. We have a youtube channel and Ig where we post more stuff and a soundcloud where we post less frequently.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
They should respect their artistic Identity and avoid the conformist attitude all because what they do or say makes them feel uncomfortable.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want a place where there is creative freedom and a safe haven for artist to really express themselves and not have to worry about control or censorship.
