We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Daniel and Bayou Lir. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Daniel and Bayou below.
Daniel and Bayou, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Bayou and I’s Mom’s are both very strong women. My Mom was an Air force Officer with real life war experience and is the epitome of a strong woman. Bayou’s Mom is a brilliant Country/Bluegrass singer who was also a special Ed teacher. They both raised us as single women and now being parents ourselves we truly admire just how strong they are.
Today as Filmmakers we have to be strong leaders of large cast and crews who are confident and we both feel our Mom’s helped us to take on this type of identity. Additionally they really believed in us and supported us which is a quality one really needs to be an independent artist. Without people who believe in you it’s almost impossible to be a Filmmaker because you just have to overcome so many challenging obstacles as a Filmmaker in Hollywood.
They are similar in that they gave us every opportunity to develop into the artists we are today. Bayou’s Mom drove her long distances to take horse riding lessons where Bayou became a champion and also violin lessons where she was a child prodigy.
My Mom allowed me to take classes in photography, video, painting, drawing, design and gave me the concept that art is important which I feel is critical. Further as a Filmmaker you have to understand and weave together many art forms and so I thank my Mom for exposing me to many diverse art forms and bringing me to museums from a young age and educating me about music when I didn’t even appreciate classical music but is now so important in film scoring which I take a deep interest in in creating for our films. Additionally she exposed me to the Opera and theatre which is how I ultimately found filmmaking as my passion.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I, Daniel Lir met my co-founder at a super cool Vegetarian cafe on the Lower East Side of NYC. She was coming out of her yoga class, I was eating a vegi dog and there was only one seat left and available and so we started talking and just hit it off with so much in common.
We made our first project together starting Lea Michele of Glee and it took off and we were awarded in front of hundreds of people. Then we wrote and directed a comedy about the social media generation called Text Me which went viral, was publicized in Seventeen and Teen Vogue, played to the public in Times Square NYC and helped make its actor Matt Bennett famous.
We knew we had something special together immediately. Ultimately it’s all about the team.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We think finding your unique voice and capability is critical to success. What can you do better than anyone else in your industry? Focus on that and don’t try to do it all.
Also the amount of promotion required to create an acceptable level of jobs is often more than people expect. You have to promote hard and in volume and test different methods to see what works best.
You can always achieve your goals and have huge opportunities if you find the correct working method of advertising and promotion. Amazing work plus huge promotion is the key to success.
