We were lucky to catch up with The Colour Monday recently and have shared our conversation below.
The Colour Monday, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I think that all of us have the goal to make our passion our full time job. At this time, this is not the case. But we hope that one day, we can do what we love and enjoy the work that we do as artists. Putting 100% of our time and energy into this love affair we call being musicians. It is not an easy road but it is one we are all on at the same moment. I think a huge factor of that is supporting one another. Showing up to another bands show. Giving them a follow on social media. Liking a post or reel, knowing how much work went into doing that. All of that will get us much closer to being able to do music full time.
The Colour Monday, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It has been said that The Colour Monday takes you on a melodic journey of perfectly blended styles that open your ears to something different. Blending together genres like avante garde, experimental & alternative, while throwing in some chunky bass lines, they’ve created sounds that leave you wanting more.
The Colour Monday has performed locally in San Diego at venues such as The Soda Bar, The Casbah, and The Merrow, just to name a few. They have also been involved in the South Park Walkabout, competed in the SDCCU Battle of the Bands, beating out all other competitors, and most recently performed at the San Diego County Fair.
Currently, The Colour Monday is recording with Emerald Age Studios and has released several singles. You can find them streaming on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music, amongst others.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
To be completely honest, we are still working on building up our social media. In this day and age, it is not an easy feat to build an account with genuine followers. Our goal when gaining new fans and following on our social media pages is to have people who truly enjoy listening to what we have made. It is such a rewarding experience to hear people say how much they enjoy our music. We put a lot of ourselves into the songs and hope that it comes through for all to hear.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal is to be heard. Getting our music out there for everyone to genuinely enjoy is something we strive for every day. We don’t really have a mission, but if we did, it would be something along the lines “Creating music that sounds good and makes you feel”. We also want to stay as true to ourselves as we can. Who knows what the future has for us, but making music that we enjoy is what we want to keep doing.
