We caught up with the brilliant and insightful The Brothers Mitchell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
The Brothers, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
When you dive into the craft of filmmaking/producing, you’re in for a journey. It’s like peeling back the layers of reality and stepping into a realm where you become the storyteller, the creator, the master of visuals and emotions. It’s deeper than just moving cameras and editing footage, it’s about channeling your spirit into the art. Filmmaking breaks barriers. It ain’t confined by borders or languages. It’s universal. It’s a language of visuals, emotions, and shared experiences. It’s a bridge way to bring people together from all walks of life. So, when you’re learning the craft of filmmaking, you aren’t just learning how to make movies, you’re diving into what expresses your soul.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My brother and I created a film company known as “Two Black Sheep”, in 2020. We also revamped a hat company in 2019 known as TMB Hats from 2013. Through our shared passion, we took on distinct roles within both companies. In the Film company, Devin controls all sound-related business, while I, Andre control the visual portion. For TMB Hats, Devin controls the creative side and marketing, where I control the design portion of the business.
We’re known as the one-stop-shop brothers, from idea to final reel, we’re able to make dreams come true. But overall what’s dope about having a company with your brother is that we’re able to stand side by side each day and work smoothly, knowing that the other is going to keep it real with you.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is all about that impact, that realness, that truth. It’s about having the power to shine a spotlight on the stuff that matters, the stuff that people need to see, even if it’s uncomfortable, even if it’s raw. We’re talking about being a voice for the voiceless, telling stories that might not otherwise be told, and showing the world the beauty, struggle, and realness of our lives. It’s about being unapologetic, not holding back, pushing boundaries, shaking things up. It’s about inspiring the next generation, showing them that they can do it too, that they can be bold, be brave, and tell their own stories, no matter where they come from.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our goal, our mission, is all about opening doors, man. We want to create opportunities, inspire, and empower more black voices, and more black artists, to step into the creative space and own it. We got a wealth of talent, a wealth of stories, and it’s about time we see that fully represented in the world of creativity. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table; it’s about creating our own tables, our own spaces, where we can thrive and bring our art to life without limitations. We want to see more mentorship, more collaboration, and more support for young black creatives who might not have had the same opportunities. It’s about building a community, lifting each other up, and creating a legacy that future generations can be proud of.
