Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to The Break Plans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
The Break Plans, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of the biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Content and videos have become the norm for a band to succeed. No longer just relying on music, but inviting fans and followers to see behind-the-scenes is now really important. And we love it because of the connection we have with our listeners! For example, we wanted to show them what it’s like when we’re recording music in studio, so we made this short video to give everyone a peek – secrets and all!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
We’re The Break Plans from Freehold, New Jersey and our band members are Colton Braun (lead vocals, keys), Mikey Strawz (guitar), and Daniel Carr (drums). We started the band to make music people not only want to hear … but NEED to hear. We are an alt-rock/pop-rock band, and one of the labels we’ve been given by the music industry is “Indie Poptimism.” We want listeners to have a GREAT time and feel optimistic and happy when they listen to our music – like with our latest singles “Love This Crazy” and “Fashionably Late.” When we perform, our goal is to turn a quiet room into an all-out party! We hope that our music genuinely makes people feel better … something we all kind of need right now.
Very early on, we decided that we wanted to let our fans in on our journey as a band. Instead of taking the route of just posting “serious” content with no interaction, we decided to show everyone who we really are and to open up the lines of communication. We welcome conversations with our followers. It gets to the point where they feel like our friends. We’re like the guys next door just havin’ a blast and making some music; and we want everyone to come along for the ride!
How’d you meet your band mates?
Having scoured the music scene trying to find the right musician, Colton posted an advertisement on a classifieds website for musicians and Mikey who was seeking a band member and a singer stumbled upon the advertisement in a serendipitous way. The advertisement mentioned bands that Mikey was a true fan of and that led to the partnership and formation of the band. Dan joined a little later and also felt like a perfect fit.

Any fun stories from your live shows?
Everyone is aware of the challenges the pandemic created for all musicians. A lot of our music was released right before everything closed down, so we never really got a chance to promote the new songs like we had hoped. When we finally were able to play a show, it was at The Grape Room in Philadelphia, PA but there were still a lot of restrictions in place. Well, we wound up playing our whole set through a window to an audience who stood out in the street for social distancing purposes. Although the circumstances from the pandemic were very unfortunate, we will never forget the happiness we saw in the faces of the people who came to hear our music. We were glad to be able to provide a fun distraction for everyone during that time. And it will be a live show experience we will never forget!
