Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Thao Tran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Thao, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company came from from my best friend. At the time, I had been baking a few different items that were always Earl Grey or lavender flavored as my obsession with tea is a bit intense!

Thao, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Thao and I am a full-time working Mom with a weekend side hustle. I started to bake after I became pregnant with my first child as I wanted to design my own cake. The cake was a huge hit with my guests so I decided to keep up the hobby! After months of Youtube videos and one in-person class, I ended up selling my first cake and the rest is history. To date, I only offer cakes and cupcakes. While I wish I could find time to offer more, I currently don’t have the option as I work alone and don’t have an assistant. Being a very present Mom to my two young kids is also a top priority. What sets me apart from others is probably the simplicity of my cake designs. I focus more on modern and simple designs with light florals, rather than bold and bright. Additionally, I try my best to offer subtle flavored cakes that are not overwhelmingly sweet!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media and utilizing my photography skills. I love creating a good photo because most of us eat with our eyes!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media through my photography, making sure that there is a consistency in what is presented.
