We were lucky to catch up with Thando Skwatsha recently and have shared our conversation below.
Thando , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I still remember the day I started working at the magnolia co. , I was nervous, fresh out of college, and unsure of what to expect. But from the moment I met my boss, Rachel, I knew I was in good hands. Rachel was different She was warm, approachable, and genuinely interested in getting to know me. During our initial meeting, she asked me about my goals, aspirations, and what motivated me. I was taken aback by her genuine interest in my well-being.
Rachel was a true leader.. Her willingness to help and support me made all the difference. Under her leadership, I flourished and grew in ways I never thought possible.
I worked with Rachel for three years. Even though I’ve moved on to other roles, Rachel’s influence has stayed with me.
Rachel will always be the best boss I’ve ever had, and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to work under her leadership.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to bring new ideas to life and share them with others.
I cherish the freedom to express myself authentically and bring unique perspectives to the table. I value the autonomy to make choices about my work, from concept to completion. This independence allows me to stay true to my vision and create something that genuinely represents me.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
As someone who’s passionate about art and creativity, I believe that society can play a vital role in supporting artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem. Here are some ways we can foster a culture that encourages creativity and innovation. One of the biggest challenges many artists and creatives face is accessing resources and funding.
