We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Thamia Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Thamia below.
Thamia, appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best thing I’ve done for a Candle Pal (client) was gift him my new candle collection before its website launch. I chose him because he consistently praises my products and believes in my brand’s mission. He thoughtfully purchased two holiday bundles to give to a fragrance enthusiast with a following, encouraging her to review and share her impressions online. This generous act helped my brand gain exposure and grow our community. I will always be grateful for how he contributed to my journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Kingdom-Driven Entrepreneur who enjoys adding love, peace, and joy into others’ lives. I believe God gave me this ministry of Aromatherapy to uplift my clients through fragrance and dedicated service. My mission with Camia’s Scents LLC is to create clean, non-toxic, and stylish candles that foster wellness for body, mind, and spirit. By solving the need for environmentally friendly and enjoyable candles, I strive to offer products that enhance well-being while glorifying God. At Camia’s Scents, we keep God at the center of every decision, treating this business as a ministry. My prayer is that every person who supports Camia’s Scents experiences products that draw them closer to God.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I currently use Shopify to sell online. My prayer is to one day have a brick-and-mortar to serve our clients. I chose Shopify for its simplicity and the reviews from other small business owners. I enjoy all the features that Shopify offers to its business owners. Customer support at times is a challenge due to the changes made overtime. Aside from the customer service, in the 4 years I’ve used this platform, there has been only one incident where there was a disruption with accessing my store. Overall, it is a user-friendly and well-versed platform that I recommend for business owners starting out.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is relying on my view of the product. Instead, I learned to view through the lens of the client. The harsh reality is just because I like or think something is awesome does not mean the client will feel the same. I learned the hard way with a decline in engagement and sales. The better approach is to involve the client, find out what they enjoy, ask for their input, and get their feedback so you can better serve them.
