We recently connected with Thai Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Thai, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
The most important experience I’ve learned from my previous job was providing great customer service catered to the clients needs. Providing great service is not just being kind, it about really creating trust and understanding. For instance, when customers would come in to replenish certain items; I would ask how is the product working for you? Did you know you could also utilize the product in this way or in combination with this product? The customer would be so grateful for your advice and would alway remember you when they returned. My goal was to always to leave a lasting impression on my clients which has really assisted with elevating my business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not know me, I’m a self taught MUA with over 10 years of experience. When I begin my journey, I always had a love for emulating looks from magazines and YouTube videos. When I decided to really focus on improving my skills, I practiced on friends and family which assisted with developing my skills. However, working for MAC cosmetics is where others begin to notice my talent and eye for details. My eye for detail is also what I believe sets me apart from other artist along with my love for transforming clients into something that’s nothing short of amazing. I’m most proud of the relationships and opportunities that have crossed my path. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to work with such amazing people such as Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child. What I would like everyone to know about me is that I try my best to find positivity in every situation. I’ve learned to trust my intuition and it hasn’t failed me yet lol and I really have an intense passion for making people feel confident and beautiful.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
As we all know social media is the window to the world seeing your talent, skills, hobbies, and your businesses. I grew my social media with patience, consistency, and support from fellow friends and followers. I would post on a consistent basic and showcase my love for makeup. However, it all came tumbling down when my page got hacked and I was never able to retrieve my page back so I started fresh. I was heartbroken and devastated but I was also resilient because I didn’t let it hinder me. Because I had build such great relationships with my clients and peers, my business never slowed down. So I say that to say, always create great relationships with people in life because your true supporter can care less about your following. They know and understand that’s it about your character and your talent.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As I stated, when my page got hacked; I just knew my business was over. I honestly thought my life was over because creating and sharing my videos with a huge part of my life and who I was as a makeup artist. I gave myself time to mourn however; I got right back to creating, posting, and advertising. Being a business owner creates a strength that only one has to experience in order to understand. Although I haven’t gotten back to 24K followers, I have built so many new relationships with my new following.
