We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tetaisha Hunter’ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tetaisha , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
We can always focus on what our parents did wrong, but what if we focused on what our parents did right..? So, instead of dwelling on our parents’ mistakes, let’s shift our attention to their accomplishments. Although my parents are not flawless, they authentically embrace their unique selves. They possess the admirable quality of being brutally honest when it comes to self-expression. While it can be challenging to convey my thoughts and emotions to them without seeming nonchalant or sassy, I have come to realize that I share their fervor for expressing myself honestly and openly.
From a young age, my mother displayed an extraordinary level of independence. She began working at the tender age of 14, never relying on anyone else for assistance. Her determination to take care of herself remained steadfast even after she married my father. Meanwhile, my dad worked for a reputable company, bringing stability to our family. He always strived to provide us with the best possible life. Both my parents possess an unwavering work ethic, never succumbing to defeat. Their resilience has left an indelible mark on my own journey through life as I pursue my creative goals and embark on my spiritual mission.
As I have entered adulthood, I have come to truly appreciate the profound ways in which my parents have inspired me. Whether it be through meaningful conversations or shared experiences, I now recognize the depth of their character. I am aware that they have faced their own inner battles, both privately and publicly, which have undoubtedly been difficult to overcome. Nevertheless, they continue to rise above the pain. I understand that their own childhood wounds may sometimes affect our bond, but it only serves to deepen my love for them.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have these remarkable individuals as my parents, still present and active in my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My scars transform into a beautiful fusion of creativity, which is why I proudly call my brand Amalgam By Taisha. Amalgam means a mixture of different elements, and through my artistic talents, I dive into various forms of expression, including drawing, painting, mentoring, poetry, creative direction, and fashion design. These divine gifts bestowed upon me are a true blessing, and there’s no greater way to honor it than by embracing my authentic self and pursuing a career in the field I adore: art.
In particular, I feel a deep connection with young girls who have walked a similar path to mine. This connection is reflected in the popular products under my brand, such as backpacks, planners, lunchboxes, journals, fashion attire, and decor. These items serve as powerful tools to inspire young girls to radiate confidence and embrace their unique individuality without fear. Through my creations, I hope to empower them to express themselves unabashedly, knowing that their voices and stories deserve to be heard and celebrated.
The essence of art awakened the radiant spirit within me, reminding me of the enchantment that resided within. Through the strokes of my pencil, my pain, tears, and solitude found solace, as the melodic tunes of Michael Jackson and Prince served as my cheerleaders. Their harmonies elevated my spirit and encouraged me to perceive my internal battles as extraordinary blessings. Their melodies became the catalyst for my vibrant pop-art creations, with a fusion of colors and aesthetics that now reside within my Amalgam Artpeaces that embody not only the power of Afrocentric women empowerment but also the bohemian vibes that embrace the woman I have blossomed into today.
Through the journey of my life, I have undergone a profound metamorphosis, continuously evolving, growing, and learning. From grappling with childhood traumas to navigating through past wounds, I have embarked on a path of healing, shedding insecurities, and embracing my true essence. This transformative process has not only deepened my connection to spirituality but also allowed me to step into my divine purpose as an intermediary between humanity and the realm of the Spirit. As a Spiritual Lightworker/Intuitive Empath, I am humbled to guide others on their own journeys, supporting them in discovering their inner light and fulfilling their highest potential. This has birthed, Amalgam Divinity Glo, which is an extension to my brand.
As a result, the seamless merging of my artistic expression and spiritual quest has birthed a harmonious fusion, leading me to discover transformative ways of enriching the lives of others through healing. Art has been my lifeline during the darkest moments of my life, and now my ultimate purpose is to ignite a spark of inspiration within the hearts of humanity, regardless of their cultural, age, gender, or background. I aim to encourage everyone to embrace their inner artist, despite the bruises and hardships they may encounter along their journey. For it is through the battles we fight that our wounds heal, leaving behind a beautiful testament to the strength and resilience of our character: an artist with a warrior spirit.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
While word of mouth has been my most effective method of connecting with new clients, I understand the importance of utilizing social media platforms to reach a wider audience. Though I may not excel at posting on social media, I still recognize its advantages to connect with potential clients and showcase my work with individuals who resonate with my mission.
Furthermore, I value the power of personal connections and relationships. By actively engaging with my existing clients and encouraging them to share their experiences with others, I can continue to generate positive word of mouth and expand my reach organically.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As a naturally intuitive Lightworker/Empath, I’ve had to reframe my mindset and let go of the belief that I must form deep personal connections with every person I am called to support on their healing path. This has been a challenging process for me because I genuinely enjoy connecting with others, but I’ve come to understand the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries and not getting entangled in their personal lives.
Protecting my own mental well-being, personal space, and energy is of utmost importance because I have experienced instances where individuals with ill or negative intentions have targeted me due to my light and healing abilities. This aspect is often acknowledged and discussed in specific communities, but it tends to be a topic that many find uncomfortable and burdensome to address. Additionally, it is disheartening to encounter spiritual attacks even from those we hold dear, such as family, friends, romantic partners or coworkers.
Nevertheless, I find immense fulfillment in serving as an intermediary to assist others in healing from past traumas, overcoming adversity, and navigating unimaginable circumstances. I have now developed a keen sense of when to offer my assistance and when it’s necessary to step back and allow love and light to guide the way.
