Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terry Owens II. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Terry thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to purse a creative/artistic path professionally when I discovered the transformative power of art. Not only is it self-expression but it’s also a tool for navigating complex emotions and thoughts. I have always loved drawing and painting but when I stumbled upon neurographic art everything truly clicked. The fluid lines, the meditative process, and the way it visually looks on canvas always leaves me memorized. I realized that creating and helping others create this type of art facilitates a connection and even healing. This realization grew and later became the seed for launching my art business, Stain’D. I wanted to build a space where people could learn and experience neurographic art as a whole. Through Stain’D, I have helped and led creative workshops for nonprofit organizations, done commissions pieces for individuals, been in several galleries, and have done multiple shows in different states. The pieces i create invite viewers into a dialogue with their own emotions and stories and that’s what i love about it. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see how my personal artistic journey has evolved into a professional path that empowers others.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the founder of Stain’D and I am a creative that focuses on neurographic art. This unique art form blends spontaneous line work with intentional shaping to transform stress, emotions, and subconscious thoughts into beautiful visual pieces. My journey into the art world started as a search for creative expression. When I discovered neurographic art, it felt like a perfect bridge between the art world and emotional well-being. I became passionate about, not just creating my own pieces, but helping others learn what this art could do for them. Through Stain’D, I offer neurographic artworks, custom commissions, and workshops, where individuals and groups can learn how to create their own pieces. My mission is to help people connect with themselves on a deeper level, reduce stress and find the beauty in the unexpected when creating their own art. What sets me apart is my focus on both the aesthetic and the emotional. My art pops visually from the bright colors I choose to paint with. I personally use acrylic paint in all my pieces but I feel my color palette is very different and I always use colors that catch the eye and leave individuals staring. For anyone curious about my work, I want them to know that Stain’D is more than just art, it’s about creating a space where creativity meets self-discovery.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the biggest examples of resilience in my journey was in the early days of building my art career as Stain’D. When I first started out, I knew that if I wanted people to discover me, I have to put in legwork literally. I packed my car full of canvases, tables supplies, and everything I needed and hit the road traveling from my first show. Taking that first step allowed me to be apart of shows in Washington DC,
Philadelphia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and many more. It was exhausting and sometimes nerve-racking, not knowing how each show would go or if I would even make enough sales to cover my cost. But I kept going because I believed in my heart and my mission. Looking back those miles in the road taught me grit, adaptability, and the power of showing up for myself and my dreams, no matter how uncertain things felt.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal has always been to become a well-known artist, even though I recognize how challenging that can be in today’s world. There are so many talented creators that are sharing their works and build their own big followings. I know there are artists out there with more visibility, more sales and larger audiences, but that doesn’t take away from my drive to keep pushing forward. I believe in the pieces I create and the unique perspective I bring to my art. Every canvas I draw is a part of a mission to grow and connect with more people making a lasting impact. I feel confident that my knowledge of art combined with my dedication to learning and involving will help me carve out my own place in the community overtime.
