We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terry Lamonte a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Terry, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name back in in 2014. I was in my notebook writing down ideas and then the question popped in my mind… What will be the name of my barber shop in the future? That’s when Heavenly Pleasures Barber Shop came to life. I feel the name gives respect to God and brings an excellent barber experience to our clients by providing the services that will make our clients feel comfortable.

Terry, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Terry Lamonte a.k.a Mr. Haircut Shawty. I am a licensed barber instructor and licensed master barber in the state of Georgia. I been in the industry for 9 years and I am constantly trying to reach new levels in life. I am the owner of Heavenly Pleasures Barber Shop located in Statesboro, Georgia. I am an entrepreneur who seeks elevation in the craft of barbering. I like to bring people together and help uplift the mindsets of people who come sit in my chair. I believe in positivity and respect and know you have to give in order to receive. As an award winning entrepreneur, the barbering industry has helped me reach new levels in my life and I take pride in mentoring others for them to spread positivity as well.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Some effective strategies for growing clientele will start with consistency for me. Clients want to see that you can be consistent with your work and time. Another strategy will be to promote your craft. Show people why they should choose you for their services. Promotion will constantly be a reminder that you are available and capable to do the job. With social media being as huge as it is, promoting your brand never been so accessible. The last thing I will say is to find ways to relate with your clients. Being able to relate with multiple personalities helps a wider range of people be able to relate with you. Networking can turn into opportunities.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It was a time when I was incarcerated in 2013. During my time behind bars, I began cutting hair. Learning a new skill while being at one of my lowest points helped me understand how faith worked. 9 years later, I have been a successful professional barber and I still help motivate people to always strive for excellence. This was a time that prepared me for my journey in the barbering industry because it showed I can overcome anything if I put my mind to it.
