We were lucky to catch up with Terry Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Terry, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I have to find one or all of my 4 veteran brothers I lost contact with after we were miss treated while serving in Vietnam. I must find them to get justice for the 5 slaves of Vietnam. That’s the name of my new book. The 5 Slaves of Vietnam
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I make a song in 2011 that went viral & was a big hit. After that I found myself in the rap business & began doing shows. My work got noticed by SNOOPDOGG in 2015. I made a Uber video that went viral & now has over 100 million views. I now have over 10 songs & I travel and do shows. I’m starting my radio show next week on 97.7fm. It’s called The Reverend Herb Show. Every Thursday from 5pm to 7pm CST. Link will be in my Instagram bio. I’m @uncimo on all platforms.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building your audience is a constant job of posting & liking folks post & commenting on them. If you show something to one person that person will tell 3 people who will tell 3 people. So never think your audience is to small to perform for. And comment on people’s post & they will like & share yours. And don’t rush your success. All things in God’s Time. Also keep your post short & funny. Folks too busy for long post. And you never know what post will go viral. I have my famous Uber video now showing on Ridiculousness. I’m 72 yrs young & I still have a lot of work to go. #60yroldrapper
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was in Vietnam in 1969. I ended up on heron in 1970 because of the nightmares of the war. I attempted suicide in 1983 because of a post office supervisor & VA medicine. Then I lost everything in hurricane Katrina in 2005. After all that in 2011 I created Uncimo the weed head rapper to help me get enough fame so I can tell the story of The 5 Slaves of Vietnam. God gives me the strength to keep going & wisdom to write all these great songs. Question is. Are you guys ready for the 80 yr old rapper because I’m not ever quitting.
