We recently connected with Terry Briscoe and have shared our conversation below.
Terry , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects that I have worked on the the Proposition 2 Campaign in Vermont. I have a couple of fellow voice actors that works with an organization there that put their heart and soul into ensuring that slavery was finally officially banned in the states constitution. Many people don’t realize that quite a few states have not outlawed slavery in their constitutions and that gave them the right to essentially have prisoners in a forced labor capacity. Several voice actors myself included joined in the campaign and not only did we help get Proposition 2 passed by a wide margin but we were also rewarded with a Political Pixie Gold Award, the highest honor you can get at the Pixie Awards!
Terry , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Terry Briscoe. I am a voice actor in the Washington DC area and I have been in the industry for nearly 3 years now. I ventured into the voiceover world as a result of the pandemic in 2021. My non emergency transportation business was interrupted when doctor’s offices were either shut down or the patients were too afraid to go to their appointments. I lost nearly $3000 worth of business in the first month alone and I wanted to go into a business that I could do from home. I always wanted to be a voice actor and if I was going to do it, this was the time to go for it. So I did. Over the last 2 years I have studied with top notch coaches in the industry and have done projects in 10 different genres. I provide a brand voice for the companies that work with me. They get a tailored fit with my voiceover work. I like to call it giving them a “Voiceover Experience”, not just throwing a voice over something but working together with the client to make something truly special. The thing that I am most proud of is that my clients are satisfied with my work and come back to work with me again.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’m going to go against the grain here and say no. I do not have a singular focus. I want to have fun every day doing the thing that I love and help others make their dreams come to fruition. I like to inspire others find the thing that makes them happy and fulfills them the same way voiceover fulfills me. If I can do that and keep my bills paid I will consider myself a success.
