Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrini Woods. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Terrini, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Providing a safe space for individuals to be vulnerable with a stranger is a part of why I value my profession. Because confidentiality is the first and most important thing, my answer may appear vague.
Success in mental wellness looks like a variety of wins. To answer I will share a three stories.
Couples journey – The couple that comes to mind first came to my practice for premarital counseling. The husband was seeking support for his wife, and he stated that coming together would provide her with the encouragement she needed to be comfortable. This couple was willing to make space to complete the worksheet used from the curriculum “Prepare & Enrich.” they met at times individually and for extended couples sessions (i.e. intensives). Throughout our encounters, the wife did not appear to be comfortable. Body language was closed and replies were short and vague. Due to the observed resistance, I observed both, and the couple agreed to stop counsel. Then there was “The Pandemic” and life and therapy had to pivot. This meant virtual session for me and a drop in persons seeking counseling and focused on self and family preservation. The huge impact of isolation and being together more often than what was common caused a variety of emotional issues to be unearthed.
This lead me to former clients to reach out and reengage in counseling. To my surprise, this couple “shot” me an email requesting support. The couple’s family has grown, and they new professions, but they are still needed in the communication department.
Success – I feel that I presented with a measure of success because this couple was open to allowing me back on their team. Establishing a therapeutic relationship that promotes re-engagement and safety is part of my mission. As I work with the clients, they have grown in maturity and are open to moving their families toward healthier spaces.
Both partners are being more transparent, emotional, and consistent; these are pillars in building relational bonds of success.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I feel odd saying counseling has been my “side hustle” but this is true. My husband and I where apart of a couples ministry and we lead groups, spoke at retreats and became marriage mentors. We would host groups in our home and we benefited from the discussion and wisdom I always wanted to go to the next level; but not my hubby. So off I went. I did “a lot” of research and found myself in a graduate program, supporting various community agencies and able to work at a psychiatric hospital.
This led me to join a small, powerful group practice and opened the for me to become an associate professor in the Social Science department at my alma mater. The positive encounter, impact and feedback I got from students, colleagues and staff continued to fine tune my craft and grew my longing for working more intense with individuals.
With the impact of the pandemic, the commitment and enthusiasm for higher education was “different”. In 2023, created this mantra “2023 is free for me” . This was my motivations to focus on what I wanted to focus on my legacy and world impact.
So with great anticipation I informed my colleagues that this was my last semester and i would be working my practice full time.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy to growing my practice is letting the world know I have “no waiting list”. Networking and joining platforms that allow me to support clients who want to use their insurance. I use social media and my clients share.
