Terri, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission… When I think about it, it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. It is simply helping as many women get in and stay in shape. Helping them to be happy, healthy and accepting their bodies, not comparing themselves with others. Simply working hard at “Being Your Best Kinda You”
Terri, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a mom of two amazing boys. One a teenager and the other a toddler. I have been in the customer service industry for most of my adult life. Helping clients has always been very important to me. After my last son I wanted to get back in shape and had a few friends who had the same goal. So, we started a fitness group and started doing challenges. One of those friends came to the gym with me once and suggested I create an Instagram page and upload my workouts. I was never really into Instagram at the time and mainly used it to see pics of different trending ideas. But the thought of helping women stuck with me.
A bit of a back story; I had my personal insecurities that I lived with for years. I was always in shape for the most part but just never felt “adequate.” It wasn’t until I started working out and going to the gym that I really began to understand the human body and its possibilities and how I could love myself and still work towards achieving a certain image. So at this point, with the suggestion of my friend, I thought I could help other women do the same. I continued helping my friends, then I decided I wanted to be certified as a Personal Trainer but knew exercise wasn’t the only factor where fitness was concerned. I then decided I needed to understand more on the critical role food plays in helping my clients reach their goal and helping them develop a healthy relationship with food and got certified as a Nutrition Coach. I decided then to officially start my business. I quit my day job and focused strictly on helping my clients. The rest as they say is history. :-)
I currently provide one on one in person and virtual training, nutrition coaching and a virtual group class, which is my favorite as I love the group spirit that my clients exude.
I am very proud of the strides I’ve taken and the help I have provided and continue to provide to my clients. When I have clients achieving goals they’ve not been able to achieve with another person or program this is the most rewarding part for me as I know I’m completing the goal I had when I decided this is what I wanted to do (help women look and feel good about themselves).
How did you build your audience on social media?
This is a very good question as when I started my business this was the area that scared me the most. I was so afraid of the criticisms I would get. What if they don’t like me. I cant do this. No this post is all wrong. I suck at this…lol … The truth is you just need to start. Think of who your target audience is, focus on your strengths and just be you. Don’t compare yourself and look at what others are doing (unless its for inspiration). What I found is most persons appreciated the content I made. Yes, you will have critics but who doesn’t. Again, just be you. People appreciate authenticity.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Would you believe Instagram and Google. lol. For my virtual clients, most if not all are from Instagram and for my face-to-face clients, they find me through a google search for personal trainer, then head on over to Instagram to see what I’m all about. :-)
