Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrence Pasley . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Terrence , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
Back in August of this year , I decided to quit my full-time job with the school systems to pursue my food service business full-time. The first month was very challenging because I was in the routine of working a regular job and switching over to doing Terry’s Taste. Some nights I stay up stressing and even questioned if I made the right decision but I stayed focused & I put my faith in Jehovah God and he really helped me get through a lot of trials I had to handle within myself. 2 months after quitting my job, I have three travel catering events each month for the remainder of the 2022 year, at least 7-15 lunch/dinner orders everyday weekly & a few in house personal chef gigs every other weekend for the next month. It brings my heart joy everyday waking up having orders to fulfill and seeing my business grow bigger and bigger each day. For so long I’ve been looking for purpose in my life and this decision of quitting and committing to “Terry’s taste” has brought the purpose I’ve been looking for in my life.
Terrence , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been cooking since I was a little boy but always had in interest in art and any form of art. Everything started back in 2016 as just selling plates to get through college but turned into a business once things started progressing. Terry’s Taste is a free lance chef & meal service based in the Alexandria City area of Northern Virginia but services the DMV. Our services vary from Togo & Pickup meals, Catering events, Drinks & Desserts, and more. We recently had a free mobile app created that is available on IOS & Android where our clients can preorder a meal service for Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner options. We are working to get our catering options on the website soon but for now are taking options thru phone. When Covid hit in 2020, it really was the spike in my business and brought so much exposure. Things progressed tremendously and continued well after the pandemic ended. The progress that Terry’s Taste has made within the last two years has assisted with the growth and development towards our success.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Going through the years of working and doing my business on the side, I’ve always gone through a period of time with a job where things would be going good or I try to promote myself with the company by apply for a certain position and I see that I was always feed “false dreams”. I say that because I would always work to obtain new goals within a company to work my way up but it would always be let down because of something insignificant. I remember a time I worked for a restaurant and I was moving as productive as I could and my manager stated to me “ If you can’t put some pep in your step then maybe this ain’t the job for you” I laughed, grabbed my belongings and walked out and never went back. For so long I had jobs making me question my own abilities with my own talent and the profession of Terry’s Taste has shown me that the possibilities are endless.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Staying consistent and posting material even when you think no one is going to watch. There a so many people in this world and there have been plenty of times I thought “If I post this video I don’t think it’ll get that much views or no one will like it” and majority of my videos and content have gone viral or viewed by more then 6k viewers. It makes me want to do even more than I normally would to keep up the flow of marketing so that many in my area can see the skills I have to offer right here in the community. Communication with your customer and clients is always top tier. Establishing a positive relationship with them rather it just be a “sale”. These are the folks that will assist with the growth of your business now and in the near future so always give your upmost best and continue to give them excellent service.
