Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrence Huggins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Terrence thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I honestly would have ever envisioned doing what I do now from a creative standpoint 15 years ago. I jumped in to this side of the music blindly and with no guidance fully reliant on the hope of learning as I go. I took the time out and allotted about 2 hours daily to my craft via reading the “How To” books to attending seminars, etc. That honestly was the best option I could have taken early in, also in collaboration with various other producers that had been doing so a lot longer than I had at that time.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Terrence Esquire Huggins. I am a music producer based in the DMV! Been in the music industry for 15 years now and have definitely accomplished some very solid marks along the way! Got my first Latin Grammy nomination back in 2021 and have won various awards musically over time. I got in to the industry as an artist early in my career then diverted my focus to production and post production over time. I currently own and operate my own production company, Esquire Productions, and also currently am the the Head of Productions at Exalt Recording Studio based in Hampton, VA. Within the studio I offer creative services ranging from production, engineering and mastering engineering. I’m most proud, of course, of obtaining my first nomination via the Recording Academy. Although we didn’t come home with the coveted trophy, I now fully understand the process behind achieving such a milestone!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Honestly I feel like there is definitely a lack of support overall across the board. So many amazing artist and producers within the industry are overlooked due to numbers and many other elements that are factored in. I always push to support early in and throughout genuinely.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’m not too familiar with them, although I am affiliated with so many other producers that have gained much success from the NFT movement. It’s definitely something I have to do more research on down the road.
