Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Terrence Heard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Terrence, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
I would have to say that my work has been misunderstood & mischaracterized by thousands of people; Which has a lot to do with the lack of attunement. At the age of 9 I’ve always felt this desire to be seen and I’ve always known that I would be a hot sensation to others.
My Freshman year of High School at Coppell High I knew day 1 that I was going to be that guy people gossiped about. I say this because I was openly gay, I played football and ran track, even took graphic design, and a performing arts class which was dance. I gave topics to talk about unknowingly. I started shooting with this Photographer who name is Sam Godly. We were high school friends and he loved my style so I made the perfect muse. He introduced me to photography and everything associated with that and after our first shoot that’s when I knew I wanted to be an Artist.
As I’ve gotten older and more experienced my shoots have gotten to show a lot more of who I am. A lot of the times I shoot partially naked to show lots of body detailing I try not to focus on brands so much because I’m not being paid to wear nor post any of their merchandise/products. People often DM me telling me their wildest fantasy’s about what they would do to me or tell me how appealing I am. I knew there would be DM’s as such but what I didn’t know was how the amount and how the people really felt… I’ve also have gotten some DM’s that weren’t so great. Recently I received a inbox from a troll and they said to me “There’s only 1 IDOL and that’s GOD.” I wanted to reply and say I am the walking embodiment of him, but my silence was punishment enough.
My work reflects what you would see in an Art Gallery or in PLAYBOY. When you go to an art show or gallery you may see piece of art that you may find offensive or a bit too much but what you take from it is different from what others may take from it and at the end of the day its still art. I express myself the most when misunderstood.
Terrence, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Name is Terrence Octavious Heard aka The Official Idol. I got into the Artist/Creators industry just by shooting with a local friend in my home town and when I went off to Prairie View A&M more opportunities opened up for me. I am the brand and the brand is me. In other words I am a walking product, I’m like a Dallas Kardashian or Jenner literally.
I’ve recently decided to offer creative directing and photography services to upcoming artists/creators who are starting off fresh and looking for a guide of direction and quality work to help them build a professional portfolio. I’m also releasing some new merchandise but you will have stay tune to find out more. In the past I’ve had the pleasure of working with local brands and photographers helping them execute bright ideas they’ve had for projects. Now I would like to take this time to help others achieve their dreams and goals.
What sets me apart from from others is that I don’t want it as bad as the next person but when the opportunity presents itself to me I’m going to take it. Another thing is that I am all that & then some. tall, dark, and handsome. Lol
I’m mostly proud of the fact that I always aim to maintain a positive mindset at all times. I may not book as much as some of my artist friends do but I still support and let them know that this is a marathon.
I want potential clients, followers and fans to know is that there are a lot of opportunities up for grabs so don’t just talk about what you want to do put action behind everything you set your mind towards and if one door closes don’t lose confidence because more opportunities will come your way.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It cost $0.00 to share a post It cost $0.00 to like a post
It cost $0.00 to repost
It cost $0.00 to tag a friend
It cost $0.00 to leave a comment
It cost $0.00 to shout us out.
Society can do all of these things to help support!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being a artist is the doors it’s opened for me along with some of the people I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with and meeting.
