We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terrence Gover. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terrence below.
Terrence, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so one thing we think people don’t talk about nearly enough is investments – either time or money. What’s one of the best or worst investments you’ve made and what did you learned from the experience?
The best investment I’ve made was investing in my character. In “Catch Me If You Can”, Leonardo DiCaprio took on serval careers with the same principle. Whatever you decide to do, learn it, practice it and live your life in that direction.
The first thing I do is ask myself a series of questions:
What does this type of person do?
Where does this person go?
How do they behave? (Daily routine) etc.
Character is currency. Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Our hearts are like trees. It will produce fruit based on the condition it’s in. Investing into my character prevents me from being greedy and allowing me to self advocate for what I deserve. There’s a balance.
The worst investment I’ve made was investing into the past. You can’t put any resource to use to make time go backwards. Beating myself up for mistakes I made or spending time wondering what I could have done to change a situation. Our past is a tool that helps us navigate the future. Learning from mistakes rather than dwelling on them.

Terrence, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I began in runway and brand modeling in Detroit, MI. I also did some iPhone photography. My first opportunity with a brand was Fashion Nova Men. The company was fairly new and so was I in my career. I started modeling some of their items and posting the photos to my Instagram. Today I have done collaborations with Rèmy Martin, Dining Out Magazine, Voyage Denver, Blessing Bags Brigade, countless brands, photographers and restaurants helping them build their social media platforms.
With my brand, Terrence Lon Gover LLC, I’m able to connect with artist, influencers and personalities to show them how to leverage what they have to obtain sponsorships, contracts with companies and also building a strong brand of their own. With my brand I look to connect the world via collaboration.
I’m most proud of the team of people who’ve supported me and pushed me. It truly takes a village. Don’t build a business, build a family!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn “people can’t change”. Whatever you’re exposed to becomes tradition. I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to finish where you began. I lived in almost every rehab center and homeless shelter in Detroit in my youth. The neighborhoods were dangerous at time and the culture was passed down to the younger generation. I never accepted what I saw as my life. I had to walk by faith. What you see everyday could lie to you that the world is this way all around. Let your heart be your eyes. When people start telling you, “you’re dreaming” or “you’re in LaLa Land”, you’re going the right way!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Showing up. I have this told to me every week. “Terrence, just show up”. People love connection. We love to be appreciated. That same principle applies to business and clients. Treat everyone and everything with respect. I feel that helped me in the beginning. I respected all my teachers and coaches. Not coming off as a know it all. Willingness to let an experienced person lead and humbled enough to know their value. A good teacher leads a student to leadership so don’t take your position as lesser.
