We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terrell Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terrell below.
Alright, Terrell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents taught me the power of hard work and to never give up! They would never allow me to quit anything that I started and would always encourage me to give my best in everything I do. Once the season started with a sport I would have to play until the end of the year.

Terrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Pastor and Founder of Passion Life Church and Executive Director of The River Refuge International. My life was radically changed seventeen years ago while I was in prison for trafficking cocaine. A woman I partied with and had robbed for drugs came to the prison to share with me how she forgave me and how she met Jesus shortly after I had her robbed. She read a scripture that says if you don’t forgive others you will not receive forgiveness. Through her forgiveness I experienced forgiveness and my life was changed. At my lowest point in life Jesus sent someone to help me and share hope and life. This woman is now my wife of fourteen years and we have five children together. Through my life change and experience it helped develop in me a strong belief in helping people at their lowest point. Our ministry has a strong mandate to serve the less fortunate and bring life into broken and painful circumstances. Bringing life to people at their lowest point is something our ministry does and something we know to do. This is our purpose in life and what we are most known for is helping those that many times people turn their back on.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best way to connect with families and children has been through our outreach ministry. Each week our team takes grace bags (water and snacks) into the community to bless families who are in need. Also, each year before school starts, The River Refuge provides bookbags for students going back to school. During the holiday season, Thanksgiving boxes and prayer is provided for the families. Then at the end of the year, Christmas in the City is the event that provides thousands of toys for kids! Each event is extremely special but I think all the staff and volunteers absolutely love Christmas in the City.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Yes! I am a praying man and our ministry has had moments when we only had pennies in our account. One time I didn’t have the money to pay and I kept praying and didn’t know what I was going to do. As I was praying I kept feeling peace and like everything was going to be okay. The day my bill was going to be drafted from my account I was given fourteen hundred in cash and My Bill was paid! Can you say a MIRACLE! MIRACLE! MIRACLE!
