We were lucky to catch up with Terrell Hubbard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
wow for me this life and path I took kind of was A love of mine at a young age my uncle Delano was A big time dj in bklyn and i used to carry crate of Record or them heavy ass Gemini speaker to parties or block parties, it was fun cause the older ladies was on me. so as i got older i started to do my own thing i through my first party in 1998 and was a major success so i started to throw a weekend party and quickly became none throughout BKLYN . around 2003 things really got going for me as i notice to now be in the lime light and connecting with big promoter and started to have parties with them in places like MARS 2112, CLUB NEW YORK, Hammerstein Ballroom. around 2011 i was approach ny and rap artist name Nay Nillz from Bklyn nyc and he wanted me to manage him he has a song called (my City) 2011 was not a good year for me i had just finish dealing with some legal trouble so i was not in the right frame of mind. but he keep on asking and his grind was crazy so as I started to listen to the song i was like wait u have something here and started to send it out to the djs i know his song. his swagg his word play was something New York needed, in the mix of me being his Manager and us doing shows, around 2014 we was at an event at the host did not show up so i hosted the event and it was go time from then till now and i have not looked back i have been bless to be able to used my platforms and showcase my talents on different major stages

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since I was young, I knew I was different. At the age of 5 I was bagging groceries at the local supermarkets in BedStuy, Brooklyn, sometimes not even making my way home until 3 or 4 a.m. I was the caretaker for my sister’s and myself, since my parents were absent due to addiction. After being pushed into the foster care system and finally making our way into the hands of my aunt, I was able to focus on myself and my dreams, Although I did not stay with my aunt for long only living there for 2 years till I 8 years she taught me what being love looks like. Once I left my Aunt, I went to be with my grandma may she (R.I.P) Life with my grandma was amazing from 1988 till she went home to be with the lord in 2003 but I never lost that drive and yearning to work hard and provide. This is where I discovered my god given talent of entertainment, from them parties with my uncle to being in foster care to living with my aunt and living with my grandma in Brooklyn. The microphone tingled in my hand I knew I had Gift, and I knew this was where I belonged. When I decided to become a host, originally it was in the music industry, but as I gained more contacts, I decided to take this back to my childhood. I started a clothing/Music Label called G.O.E. which stands for GameOverEmpire, which my first artist on the label (NAYNILLZ) I begin to make more and more connection with artist and DJS, while moving through the industry and building Networking I started to become a household host A big name pretty soon the name Gameover was being book from NYC, NJ, CT, VEGAS, NC, SC, ATL. ETC. Just to name a few, I want to say during covid-19 I created A podcast (Gameover Podcast) where unlike other podcast in the industry my Interviews included a ton of different genres of people. I turned my attention to people of the community like Mothers who lost their kids through Gun violence, Back to school event, Feed the homeless, Xma’s Toy drives. And had a career day where teens got interviewed for jobs on my show. I wanted the people of the community know that their experience was just as important if not more important, than a famous person. It has not been the easiest road and I know that there are more hurdles to jump and mountains to climb, but I was made for this. The main thing I want from my brand as long as I am able to be in entertainment for people to know they are not alone, their struggles, we get that, their misfortune, we have lived that, and their climb to the top, I support that.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was younger, I was forced into a life I did not want to live, but I am grateful that I was in some respects, because it made me who I am today. My parents were heavy into their addictions and were sporadically around to care for my sisters and I, and even if there were there physically, they were always emotionally and mentally absent. I was forced to do what the man of the house was supposed to and care for my younger sisters. At the age of 4&5 I gained employment at a local Supermarket, bagging groceries and often times didn’t come home until 3 or 4 in the morning from being in the streets with friends. After the authorities were notified of our situation we were taken into the hands of the state and became property of the foster care system. around 5 going on 6, Enraged with my parents and the foster system, I attempted to burn down the foster care Building you can’t just take a kid out of school bring him to a building and say this is foster care you won’t be able to go home and think that It was going to sit right with me, about 2 hours later I was then saved by my aunt, who took us into her care. It was there, at her home I was finally able to see what being a 6-year-old kid was like. I was able to go to six flags enjoy Xma’s, Thanksgivings Birthdays, Once leaving my aunt at 8 years old and going to live with my grandma she gave me the world tried her best to give me a great childhood but i was so into the streets that all i wanted. When I was older, I gained reliable employment and also knew what type of worked i wanted to be in entertainment industry as this is my passion. I have grown so much, in life, in all of my careers and in this artistic industry that I love.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The biggest drive that I have is to show those with similar backgrounds to mine that there is hope and a way out of the lifestyle they are in. We have all had struggles in our life, but life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it. My goal is to show people, who may be struggling a healthier and more productive way to react. A way to grow with themselves and create their best potential and even if it doesn’t make them millionaires, they will be rich with spirit. My goal is to spread hope, happiness love peace that is what driving my creative along my journey when you trust in god the mission the journey the goal all becomes easy.
