The Story
Amidst the pandemic, Mossman Juices & Smoothies gained widespread popularity, emerging as the newest go-to apothecary for a nation struggling with a severe health crisis. Renowned for its all-natural products, including sea moss, herbal teas, smoothies, and supplements, the brand received acclaim as a delicious and holistic alternative to conventional over-the-counter medicines.
For six months, we successfully navigated a substantial volume of sales, spanning both national and international markets. We were already stretching the limits of our operational capacity, but we managed to stay ahead of the curve.
Then came the sale that triggered our viral moment and nearly put us out of business.
To show our appreciation, we hosted a 50% off sale. The excitement of this promotion incentivized our customers to purchase double and triple their usual amounts. As email inquiries poured in—some for tracking updates, others about broken or undelivered packages—we confronted a pivotal choice: shut down or provide transparent, solution-based communication. Opting for the latter, we offered our clients explanations and options.
Anxiously awaiting their responses, we feared the worst—public denouncement, massive refund requests, or even brand cancellation. Surprisingly, our customers exhibited remarkable patience and kindness, refraining from public criticism and instead expressing appreciation for our transparency and grace while we navigated these challenges.

They reinvigorated our confidence by granting us the opportunity to correct our mistakes and deliver the wellness products they came to trust, love, and need.
Grateful for a second chance, we worked tirelessly to strengthen our operational weaknesses. We remade and reshipped each order in safer packaging. We personally traveled state to state to ensure safe delivery of larger orders. We shared dozens of emails and social media posts reflecting our sincere efforts to mitigate inconveniences.
Along the way, we lost some valued customers. Today, we use the hard lessons as motivation, maintaining hope that our ongoing commitment to improvement will earn back their trust.
Our best advice?
Prioritize systems and processes. Establish a solid infrastructure for your operations before facing a potential viral moment. This precaution could be the game-changer that saves your business from the brink of disaster.
