We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terrance McGee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrance, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Since an adolescent, I’ve held firm the belief that I am a miracle child because it’s what my mother always told me. And, throughout my life tenure, any successes are credited to the personal efforts of remaining faithful and diligent throughout processes.
The business idea came along as I was thinking about the perception of things. And, the greatest advice I have ever received was to be less concerned with understanding the world than identifying the steps to take in the pursuit of moral excellence. In this grand scheme of systemic viewpoint, only clarity speaks volumes to an open mindset. An open mind allows for a high feeling of new ideas and visions to flourish. Life is personal and individualized; therefore, I am solely responsible for my personal fulfillment of life’s offerings.
Much about mortality has been revealed to me through personal experiences. Mental faculty proves itself to be critically suspect of learning information through past tradition.
It’s a fact that life is what we make of it. To comprehend and internalize what it means to be responsible eliminates excuses fallen victim to circumstance, even when faced with hypnotic gestures of habitual formations.
Many times in life, I didn’t or couldn’t understand why failed attempts were reoccurring. The reasoning was simply a flawed thinking process. I denote that nothing I wanted to accomplish was going to happen successfully, unless I functioned with purpose and knew the reason for achieving that success.
My life purpose object to irrational viewpoints that are systemic of societal traditions and those things that are detrimental to prosperous foresight. Derivation of harmful self-absorbed actions may very well stem from indoctrination. Painful infliction and or behavior may be tied to the context of learned stimulus associations. Whenever faced with situational cues related to the context of decision-making, execution may very well repeat old associated behaviors.
Gracefully, inspiration piqued my interest. I learned to overcome the odds of mental blockage by educating the self about consciousness. It is possible to be conscious and unconsciously aware of habits, for behavior can undeniably be automatic to the extent that it overrides a behavior intent, which may actually be different.
Of my triumphs and setbacks, I understand that sensitivities stem from childhood, and that perception and viewpoints are a consolidation of my own life experiences. Though I can take note from others’ successes or failures in life, it is understandable that everything I need to be a success lies within myself. I call this DNA, “Personal Definition.”
Personal Definition is all about ‘Owning Distinction.” The brand purpose promotes optimism for those who lack esteem to be their authentic self.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a servant at heart for the betterment of humanity. I would hope that my work ethics are infectious for others to emulate. My spiritual journey includes influential teachings and understandings that align with Universal Intelligence. As a stern observer of someone who demonstrates effort, daily practices and the pursuit of happiness are led by moral directives.
For over a decade, I’ve exalted myself wearing many occupational hats. Summation of those efforts are as follows:
Creative Manager New Media – I’ve assisted physicians with facilitating medical students of all specialties at Texas A&M University, Health Science Center, College of Medicine… now called School of Medicine, as well as associations to the conglomerate: Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Department of Veterans Affairs, Methodist, St. Joseph, St. David, and Ascension Seton Hospitals, as well as an abundance of private organizations for eleven years.
As a motivational (keynote) speaker, youth mentor and coach to teens throughout the state of Texas, my tutelage consists of ongoing Career, Coaching & Planning to residents who are incarcerated within juvenile detention centers, alternative and state schools, school districts, and throughout communities.
As a self-published author and screenwriter, successful initiatives have concluded with the following published works: Mind Composition in Verse; Divine Wisdom; Difficult Arguments & Simple Truths; Personal Definition – Owning Distinction; Personal Definition – Noble Distinction; “A Life for a Life” screenplay; excerpts in the following anthologies: Twilight Musings; Timeless Voices; and published articles in “The Bells,” the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor campus newspaper.
The extent of my role as a film director and videographer includes a plethora of short films, public service announcements, infomercials, stage plays, special events, and educational training videos. I directed the short film, “Last Waltz,” and have operated as field producer and production assistant with First Take Media, director Ray Bengston, and Open Door Films, director Jimmy Wilden. I also partook in the Robert Rodriguez film, “Machete,” which featured actors: Danny Trejo; Jessica Alba; Lindsay Lohan; Michelle Rodriguez; Steven Seagal; Robert De Niro; Rose McGowan; Don Johnson; Cheech Marin.
I’m Co-Founder of IMPAC (Intelligent Minds Proving & Applying Commitment), a highly charged motivation outreach that exists on the basis of curtailing epidemics that affect our youth. Systemic plagues or hidden dangers restrict them from maximizing their potential. The mission is to improve the quality of youth lives through a balance of self-discovery, embracing potential, and applying applications needed to bring about success. Through commitment and persistent methodologies, education is the key intervention for a positive lifestyle change.
I’m Chief Media & Marketing Director of @ iYouthChat, a “Teen Talk” television show which broadcast on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) for three consecutive years. @iYouthChat was the chat everyone needed to hear! It sponsored some of the most brilliant, talented, energetic, motivated, ambitious, and opinionated youth, who collaborated as a team to help discover the art of success. The show’s intent was based upon ideas of educational dialogue aimed at curbing the national epi- demic of juvenile delinquency. It provided for an open source of ethics designed to define societal rules, con- ducts, and views of the youth population at large. The goal was to establish a platform that kept audiences engaged and informed about societal concerns.
The experience was remarkably gratifying, educational and inspirational, as we taught teens to be a co-host, set up lighting, and be young videographers. Moreover, we taught them to be pillars within communities of great standard.
By end of the fiscal year in 2019, the show was postponed and awaited transition to another broadcast medium. In January 2020, the nation was declared a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus (COVID 19) epidemic, which affected many platforms nationwide.
Throughout my tenure, I denote that personal value does not stem from external sources. I am responsible for utilizing all God-given ability to establish merit. The pandemic helped minimize many distractions in my life. Since the inception of
the nation-wide spread, I’ve been able to sustain clarity, and to be more health conscious. My desire is to remain vigilant while traveling extraordinary lengths in this lifetime, in order to pursue harmony with Universal Intelligence.
The greatest of all things is learning to care for self and think for self. It’s best to choose and focus on health, happiness, prosperity, and peace of mind. The theme of value for a good life is to think clearly about the self, eschew entrapment free from indoctrination that seem desirable and appealing.
Personal Definition, Owning Distinction aim is to help ordinary people identify with themselves in the midst of misinformation. It is vital to use discretion and proper mind etiquette to secure balance when contrasting things of relevance and purpose. People are more than just numbers, and have the ability to reclaim their niche in life for the greater good of humanity.
The brand offers educational, motivational (keynote) speaking, media and marketing services.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The threat to the mental capacity is so vicious nowadays that logic seems a bit uncommon. Morality is important to me.
I would like to fast-forward a personal message from author, Dan Custer, which I find most profound for obtaining and sustaining prosperous esteem with self. Dan asserts, “Every human being has two basic desires: to get away from pain and to arrive at plea- sure. If these desires are to be satisfied, he must get along harmoniously with other people, adjust to his environment, and, most of all, get along satisfactorily with himself. If he lacks adjustment anywhere -inside or outside- he suffers pain-dis-ease-in his conscience, in his body, in his personal relations or in his pocketbook.”
Mind is common to all individuals, yet only a small fraction of this powerful agency is used to unlock the unlimited power of progression it contains. Since every act and response is guided by mental action and decision, it’s best we recognize and utilize this gift provided to us, if life is to deem more personable meaningful.
Once upon a time, I can recall the common mistakes of judgment, and would instead follow traditional methodologies that would later have me backtracking with logic. Gracefully, and while taking a moment at a time, I’ve been able to shift my mental paradigm and reverse vigilant perspectives on matters for a more glorious feeling. Honest choices to be different and recognize vitalizes have rendered more prevailing solutions for mental clarity.
“Life is love and existence, yet more than a feeling; it’s tied to the context of action, which is the secret.” – Terrance B. McGee
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After serving ten years in the United States Military, and having been deployed to war on several occasions, I can officially say, “Good times outweighed the bad.” This wasn’t always my view on life. I’ve learned that no problem is too great for the Celestial.
My tenure in service ended abruptly unto medical impairment. Needless to say, I wasn’t prepared for transitioning back into the civilian sector. Transitioning for me meant altering my hyper-ego, and resulting to a noncombatant lifestyle. The experience was tough. I possessed more of a pessimistic view on life, and blamed past familiarization for the toil it had on me mentally and physically. I sought counseling in the event that it would help alleviate anxiety and depression; I, therefore, agreed to partake in therapeutic group sessions. It was a defining moment. I knew it was vital for me to tran- sition from pessimism to adopting a more optimized perspective. I, therefore, made the decision to dedicate my time gaining spiritual enlightenment. Eventually and overtime, my heart exceeded contention with hope that everything was fine. Ever since, it has been my desire to help inspire and encourage those in need.
