We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Terra Maroun a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Terra, thanks for joining us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?

I truly believe that “anti-aging” is a lie. Our society as well as the beauty industry is against aging. Portraying that getting older is a bad thing, ugly, shameful. Every where you turn you see anti-aging campaigns and products from the local Target to the dermatologist’s office. The truth is, there is no such thing as “anti-aging”

I want to change the narrative. Aging is a privilege that not everyone has the opportunity to experience. As a near-miss survivor having almost lost my life in 2011, I try so hard to enjoy each moment that I am given.

Essential Blooms products are curated to change each person’s perception of aging. These products allow others to embrace where they are as they age. The products help to soften fine lines & wrinkles, diminish dark spots and under eye darkness, naturally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Most of my life, from the age of 13, I suffered from terrible acne. I visited dermatologists, used most over-the-counter acne products, tried the big name products as well! Nothing helped my skin.

During the Covid lockdown, while my husband was deployed, I began curating body oils. I noticed that one of the oil blends that I was using on my body helped to soften and lighten my C-section scar. Intrigued, I decided to see if the oil would help my skin. Within two days, my skin was mostly clear! It was from this moment that I decided to throw away all of the products on my counter, and start my own skin care line. I have never looked back!

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

Each product in the Essential Blooms Body & Skincare line is curated in small batches. I am not a chemist, a dermatologist, or a doctor. I am a mom, a wife, a woman who had a terrible skin problem. I have always been my own guinea pig, and I test every product on myself (even friends, family and customers that volunteer) before launching. Each ingredient is sourced from reputable places. I ensure that each ingredient is organic, natural, free of chemicals, toxins, hormone disrupting chemicals and preservatives..

I did not know how to curate each other product in the beginning. I started reading and researching my heart out. I blended and tested over and over again until I got it right. I’ve had a few flops over the years, but I give myself grace and I keep moving forward! I would not put a product out that I do not use myself!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I did not have any capital to start my business. I do not have an investor. I started this business with a stimulus check during Covid. I spent the first two years reinvesting every single dime into Essential Blooms.
