We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Terra Channell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Terra below.
Terra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I first became sick with auto immune issues, it was recommended by a functional medicine Dr for me to do an elimination diet ( auto immune protocol). It was very overwhelming & challenging, having to cut out gluten, corn, soy, nuts, seeds, eggs, nightshades, nitrates, dairy.
There are no prepared meals available in the stores that are AIP compliant. It used to take me 5 hours a week to prep my food. After work I was too tired and in too much pain to make a healthy meal that would help me heal.
After cutting everything out of my diet I noticed a huge improvement in pain, brain fog & inflammation were gone. With being super limited I had to get creative to avoided getting bored of eating. I posted meals on social media. People said the food looked good. Something stronger than me came over me and said start a business, so I did!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a mom of 3 grown kids, My husband & I have been married for 28years in July.
After seeing how much my quality of life changed and how much better I felt after eating an AIP lifestyle, I started a business to help others. My food is ready to eat or depending on the dish it may need heated on the stove or in the oven.
Strees causes inflammation, so just the idea of trying to make healthy meals can cause more inflammation. My customers are able to heat, eat & be on their way.
I am most proud of the community that I have helped create with resources to help others. I am very active in the community and help non profit organizations as much as I can.
We are the only local ( Toledo, Ohio) company that provides AIP compliant meals. This is such a need for so many people.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I have created my social media audience by posting tips, suggestions for meals to help give people ideas of how to eat this way.
I network alot with people in the health and wellness field. My page, information gets shared on a regular basis.
For someone starting out with a social media presence it’s important to post on a regular basis with positive content that pertains to your business.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
We recently rebranded the company to My Personal Meals. Initially most people didn’t know what AIP is. With rebranding to My Personal Meals they know we are a food company.
Also with the new branding we will be adding vegan meals as well that will be made on Thursdays to avoid any cross contamination. Although we will provide vegan meals they won’t have gluten, corn or soy.
