Teri, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I have never been very confident I am the youngest of four, so my siblings usually took charge of everything and I just went with the flow. I never fit in any social environment, because my quiet dreams did not match the priorities of other people my age. Everytime I spoke of my ambitions and views of the world, I was shot down with bullets of judgement and envy from the people around me. However, this completely change during my master studies in Cardiff. I will be forever grateful for the people I met there, as they not only listened to me, but they really took me seriously and showed me my self-worth. They brought out the best in me and made it grow. I would have never made such a progress in the music industry if it wasn’t for them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Teri N and I am a singer-songwriter/music producer. The music I make is mostly folk or folk pop, depending on who I work with. What I think really sets me apart from others is my upbringing and ethnic background. I grew up listening to stories and writing them. My culture is rich with fairytales, legends and myths, which inspire my lyrics greatly. My layered vocals and various melodic lines and harmonies teleport the listener to another world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It heals. No matter what you need healing for. It heals. When I feel angry – I mix songs. When I feel homesick – I write. When I feel a sorrow – I play. Creativity is about expressing emotion and turning it into something tangible
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes. I want to create a portfolio that describes me. When somebody asks – ‘who are you? what have you achieved?’ I want to show him my portfolio and say ‘This is who I am’.
