Teri, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I do not regret starting my business at that time. Family-wise, my daughter just graduated from high school and my son from college. It was a good way to stay busy during my free time. However, if I could go back in time, I would choose to start my business earlier. I was restricted and had to spend most of my time accompanying my kids until they grew up.
Some people may say it is a risk to start a new business at my age. But I remember a saying that “If you don’t take risks, you’ll have a wasted soul.” Compared with staying at an empty home doing nothing, I would rather start a new business.
Of course, the risks and costs of starting a new business were way bigger. But an American motivational speaker named Denis E. Waitley said, “Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all cost, and that is the risk of doing nothing.”
In fact, everything is a risk. Not doing anything is also a risk. It is all up to you. I chose to take a risk that I did not regret.

At the age of sixteen, my daughter signed with a modeling agency and became a model. She walked in runway shows and did many commercial shoots at the time. I sometimes would accompany her and had opportunities to meet many African American photographers, hair stylists, and makeup artists. I know the importance of hair extensions and wigs to them.
When my brother who owns a hair factory in my hometown of China asked me to help him sell hair in the U.S, I didn’t hesitate to accept his offer. My first customers came from the photographers and makeup artists that worked with my daughter. They supported me from the very beginning and I will never forget them.
In return, I try my best to provide the best quality hair and service to them. I got more clients later on from hair stylists. They knew hair and requested high quality hair. Fortunately, most of our clients have been satisfied with our hair quality and do business with us continually.
We sell high quality Brazilian human hair in 12A grade including bundles, 4×4 and 5×5 transparent lace and HD lace closures, 13×4 and 13×6 transparent lace and HD lace frontals and 180% density 4×4, 5×5, 13×4 and 13×6 transparent lace and HD lace closure and frontal wigs. We also sell 3D and 5D mink eyelashes in high quality.

Besides selling hair, we also own a salon located upstairs of our luxury store. We have three hairstylists to sew in hair and one to plant eyelashes. You can call 678-936-4118 to make an appointment. Service price is below market price but quality is beyond market standard.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My family actually ran a picnic business before I started Rose Hair Collection. But the shipping costs by sea were high and the inventory was big, which was beyond our control. I realized that we needed to find new products with low shipping costs, lower volume, and a bigger market.
My brother owned a hair factory in my hometown, Qingdao, and has run a hair business for more than ten years. At that time, he asked me if I wanted to help him sell hair in the U.S. I found that it was a good opportunity and also it was my dream product. I then built my business in 2018. It turned out to be a good and correct choice.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that honesty helped us build our reputation within the hair market. We always provide good quality hair with enough length and density. We also make sure our wholesale price is competitive in the local market.
We also encourage our customers to give their feedback. We pay attention and adjust our price and quality control accordingly. If we do get negative comments, we immediately react with our factory and improve hair quality for future orders.
Our purpose is to make our customers satisfied with our products and services. The only way is to be honest and establish long-term relationships with our clients. So far, I believe we have done it very well.
