We recently connected with Teressa Mackey and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Teressa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I wish I would have started sooner. Maybe not the actual business .. but the part where I finally believed in myself and allowed myself to dream and that these dreams could actually be a reality. I think the moment I finally believed it could happen was when my business actually started . The moment when I allowed the dreams to rise up higher than the doubts .. that’s when it became real. That moment is what I wish could have happened sooner.

Teressa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a mother of four who loves her children and also has a big heart for other moms. It’s my mission to celebrate mothers in some of the hardest, yet most rewarding seasons of life, There is unfortunately a HUGE gap in the photos we have as moms. Loads of photos of our children or our children with our partners … but lacking in the photos we have of us and our children. I love to be able to highlight the family in each session I do, but most important the connections between mom and the children. It’s an amazingly beautiful season that deserves photographs for not only the mom to look back on but the child as well.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’m still very much starting to grow an Instagram presence for my business, but it’s been my favorite place to engage with potential clients . As an on-location photographer , I don’t have a brick and mortar store… so I see my Instagram page as that. It’s my most recent work and where I can interact with clients. Each time someone follows me or interacts with my posts, I try my best to SEE them and treat them as if they just entered into my store.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up playing sports, competing in academic events and just being part of a competitive family.. I’d say I have somewhat of a competitive side. In the creative business owner world I had to quickly realize that the other people in my industry weren’t my competition but my community. They were the people who “got me”, they were the people who had my back, they were my family and encouragement. I’m so grateful I got to see this play out and build life long friends, especially through the group babes support babes in San Antonio.
