We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Teresa Oldenbourg . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Teresa below.
Teresa , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about cost-management? Growing a business is always exciting, but often businesses run into issues when costs grow faster than revenue – have you experienced such an episode? Any advice for other operators around how to keep costs in line?
I will admit that this is something I struggle with. While I love having accessible prices, I think it’s time for customers to really understand the work creatives put in. We put in mental effort throughout the whole process, while doing the same with other clients. We are not AI, we need some time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Teresa. I’ve always had a love hate relationship with language. It’s nuanced and messy. Complicated and illusive. Despite calculative efforts you could still remain miss understood. When it comes to an image, criticism and interpretation is more welcomed. At least for me.
When it comes to what makes me different…I’m not really sure! I think that’s okay. I’m more focused on enjoying than what sets me apart.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Covid. It was a time, as it was for many, that I realized I needed a change. My job had let me go and I was stuck living with my abusive boyfriend. Between him and the state making me feel like a hostage to those walls, I knew I had to start over. Even if it meant starting from nothing.
So here I am. Still standing and working on growing. Both on myself and my craft.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Definitely social media! It is a culture of never ending nuances that change all the time! Sometimes we just want to share out art without worrying about all the things that come with posting online. I guess we just wish “the proof is in the pudding” was applied here.
