Alright, Terence thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

“Money Matters Made Easy” is a book series born out of a personal passion for financial literacy and a desire to teach others about financial responsibility. Its creation was inspired by the curiosity and business-minded spirit of my three children, and my realization that there’s a need for accessible and easy-to-understand financial advice for families.

My 22-year-old son Ian, a football player at Texas State University, has always been ambitious and determined. My 20-year-old daughter Kamren, who’s studying in Atlanta while working full time and establishing herself as an entrepreneur, has a knack for turning dreams into reality. My 11-year-old god daughter Dakari is an endless well of creative business ideas.

As I was talking to them about credit, savings, and investments, I realized that nobody had ever sat down with me to have that crucial talk when I was their age. That’s when I decided to create the “Money Matters Made Easy” series, a collection of books that would break down complex financial topics into simple, relatable language, so parents could have these essential conversations with their kids.

The series has become more than just a resource for financial literacy; it’s also a tool for families to spend quality time together, to communicate, to plan for their futures, and to learn together. My goal with this series was not only to empower my own children but also to equip parents and kids everywhere with the knowledge they need to make smart financial decisions and create a strong foundation for their future.

The process of creating “Money Matters Made Easy” involved hours of research, speaking with financial experts, and testing different approaches to explain financial concepts to kids. The series covers topics such as budgeting, credit management, saving for the future, investing wisely, and more. Each book is written in a way that encourages discussion and interaction between parents and their kids, making it a valuable tool for families to bond and learn together.

Terence, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I am a dynamic and accomplished individual, known for my diverse roles as a serial entrepreneur, digital creator, partner in Tech Genius, and a published author. With a passion for innovation and a keen business acumen, I have made a significant impact in various industries.

As a serial entrepreneur, I have successfully launched and managed multiple ventures. My entrepreneurial spirit and drive have allowed me to identify unique business opportunities and bring them to fruition. I thrive on pushing boundaries and exploring new horizons.

My goal as a digital creator, is to harness the power of technology and creativity to connect with audiences worldwide. Through digital platforms, I like to engage and entertain a wide range of followers, leveraging my expertise in content creation and online marketing. I try to constantly push the envelope, and I take pride in being what i call a people connector.

As a partner with Tech Genius which is a computer repair shop & media center off Ponce De Leon ave in Midtown, I have played a pivotal role in establishing the company as a leading provider of computer repair services. With a focus on customer satisfaction and technical expertise, Tech Genius has become a go-to destination for individuals seeking top-notch repairs and solutions. My vision along with my partner Jamin has expanded the company’s offerings to include a podcast room, editing and recording studio, catering to the growing demand for multimedia content creation. Tech Genius also takes pride in mentoring the youth on computer literacy & life experience.

My passion for financial literacy led me to write the acclaimed book, “Money Matters Made Easy: A Guide to Financial Literacy for Kids” & the second installment “Money Matters Made Easy: A Guide to Financial Literacy for Teenagers.” Through this publication, my aim is to educate and empower young minds to develop a strong foundation in managing their finances. My intent is to provide readers with practical insights and strategies for achieving financial independence.
To summarize everything, I would consider myself as a visionary entrepreneur, digital creator, partner in Tech Genius, and a published author with a commitment to innovation, education, and making a positive impact on society. My ultimate goal is to continue to inspire and empower others to reach their full potential.

I believe you have to continue to learn from life lessons and reinventing yourself is an integral part of personal development and adaptability. As humans, we encounter a plethora of experiences, both positive and negative, that shape our perspectives, opinions, and values. Learning from these experiences allows us to grow as individuals and make more informed choices in the future.

Life is ever-evolving, and the challenges we face are continuously changing. When we are open to change and personal growth, we become better equipped to navigate these challenges and adapt to new circumstances. Reinventing ourselves involves evaluating personal beliefs, habits, and behaviors, and making changes when necessary to align with our current needs, goals, or circumstances.

Reinventing oneself also allows for new opportunities. By embracing change and being willing to learn and adapt, we open ourselves up to new experiences, relationships, and paths in life that we may not have considered previously.

Moreover, continuous learning and reinvention foster a sense of curiosity and lifelong learning. We become more open to different perspectives, more empathetic, and more capable of handling the complexities of life.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.

In a fascinating twist of fate, my journey into the world of self-publishing began during a professional engagement with an older client, for whom I was developing a website. Initially, the only thing we seemed to share was a business relationship. He came from a different cultural background and held different political views. However, as we began to converse, it became clear that communication could bridge the gaps between our worlds.

Breaking through the walls of preconceptions, we discovered a shared passion for literature and knowledge dissemination. He began to share with me the nuances of self-publishing, introducing me to platforms like Amazon, which has streamlined the publishing process, making it accessible even to novices like me.

Taking his advice to heart, I embarked on my journey. My first project, “Diversity Kids,” is a coloring book designed for children. Its purpose is to educate them about the rich tapestry of human existence, teaching them about the varied cultures, backgrounds, and histories that make up our global community. Following its success, I delved deeper into history, creating a coloring book dedicated to showcasing the majestic and legendary castles from around the world.

As I grew more comfortable with the ins and outs of the self-publishing world, a new idea began to form. Inspired by my newfound confidence and the lessons I’d learned from my unexpected mentor and the conversations about financial literacy with my children, I launched the “MONEY MATTERS BOOK SERIES”. The entire series emerged from a place of venturing beyond the familiar, embracing the unknown, and the power of unlikely friendships.

Today, when I reflect on this journey, I’m filled with gratitude. It was an unlikely alliance, a chance conversation with someone I’d previously thought I had nothing in common with, that led me to discover a passion I never knew I had. It’s a testament to the magic that can unfold when we set aside our preconceptions and open ourselves up to the world and its myriad possibilities.
