We were lucky to catch up with Teonna Wells recently and have shared our conversation below.

Teonna, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

My parents were and still are go getters. Their head is on strong and they tackle every obstacle that faces them. Growing up around that made me think differently. Over time I grew this confidence in myself. I knew I wasn’t meant to work for anybody. I wanted to utilize what my parents instilled into me but on a bigger scale.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

For those who don’t know me my name is Teonna I am the owner/ operator of Pretty Gyal Wax studio located on Grand Ave., In Saint Paul, Minnesota. I am a graduate of the Aveda Institute who specializes in customized facials and full body waxing. When I was attending Edison high school there was a cosmetology program. I remember waxing classmates and styling each other’s hair. After graduation unfortunately, I chose to do the more traditional route and took jobs into dispatch and medical throughout the years. I liked those jobs but they weren’t for me. I felt like my creative energy was trapped. After having my daughter I decided this is it. I will achieve my dreams and I will be the best version of myself for my daughter. I completed the estiology program at Aveda and opened my studio in December 2022. I’m extremely proud for taking the leap of faith and believing in myself. I honestly couldn’t have done it wouldn’t my support system for encouraging me every step of the way. I created Pretty Gyal Wax Studio with the clients in mind. My space is a designated safe space for anyone to get away and decompress. The world can be to much at times but I want people to know at least one place were they can find peace. It makes everything worth while when I see my clients feeling better from when they arrived. It’s like a rebalance for them. It’s pretty cool to be a light in someone’s day.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

What I think helped me build my reputation in my market was taking model clients. By doing that I could record content for social media and also build a good relationship with the model.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

In December 2022 I opened Pretty Gyal Wax Studio with one client for the whole month of December. I was defeated I thought I failed myself and my daughter. I couldn’t let failure win so, that’s when I started to take free models. After every service the models would post their honest reviews on social media. Creating content and posting across socials has helped me a lot and still is. I’m not where I want to be but the greatest thing of all is that I’m still going and nothing can stop me.
