Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Teo Marangon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Teo thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I feel I’ve reached a pivotal point in my career, where I am more confident than ever in my craft, both creatively and economically. This journey has been marked by a series of milestones and steady growth, shaped by hard work and incredible opportunities.
I began my professional career working alongside a multiplatinum producer and mixing engineer at Denmark Street Studios, a renowned studio in the heart of London’s Soho. This environment was instrumental in honing my skills, as I learned directly from masters of the trade. During this time, I contributed to projects released by major labels such as Capitol Records and Ministry of Sound, and even expanded into the advertising world, collaborating with globally recognized brands like Microsoft, ASDA, and Unipol.
However, the journey was far from easy at the start. Like many in the industry, I balanced long hours in retail and hospitality jobs to sustain myself in London and invest in my studio setup. During my university years, I worked for brands like Ralph Lauren as a sales assistant—a stark contrast to where I am today. It’s humbling to think that some of those customers might be surprised to know I would later become a Grammy-nominated recording engineer.
After completing my studies, I transitioned to part-time work in a new studio while building my client list as a freelance producer and engineer. Through persistence and the trust of a few key clients, I began to establish a balance between producing music for London’s most exciting underground artists, composing for global brands, and teaching music production to inspire the next generation of creators.
Most recently, a significant career highlight has been an album I worked on as a recording engineer receiving a Grammy nomination—an achievement that feels both surreal and deeply rewarding.
Teo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a versatile music producer and recording engineer with a decade of experience working with both internationally acclaimed and emerging artists. With a strong background in professional studio environments, I specialize in creating music that spans genres and purposes, always guided by a passion for timeless sounds and textures. My expertise includes music production, composition, sound design, mixing, and mastering, with a particular focus on crafting soundscapes and music for commercial use.
Over the years, I’ve collaborated with exceptionally talented artists, helping them achieve over 5 million independent streams and securing features on Spotify and Apple Music’s most sought-after playlists, including Jazz UK, Best of Jazz, Fine Jazz, Shapeshifting, New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, and more.
I take pride in being at the heart of London’s vibrant music scene, surrounded by some of the most talented musicians—not just locally, but globally. Through my skills and extensive network, I’m able to offer a wide range of sound services. Whether my clients need a high-energy live show or a studio session with jazz virtuosos, my mission is to create and facilitate an environment where artistry thrives. When inspiration strikes, I’m there to press record.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my view, the number one way to support the arts is simple: get out there! Go outside, connect with people, attend live performances, visit art exhibitions (and yes, buy the ticket!), and engage in meaningful conversations. Exploring your surroundings—both geographically and socially—creates a ripple effect of inspiration and creativity.
I truly believe that the opposite of depression is expression. By putting ourselves out there, sharing ideas, and embracing the energy of real-world interactions, we foster a thriving creative ecosystem. It’s something we’re doing less and less these days, but it’s essential to keep the arts alive and evolving.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative and working with artists is the opportunity to surround myself with incredibly talented people whom I’m proud to call friends. Their creativity and passion inspire me daily, and I thrive on the challenges they bring—whether it’s a brief from a brand or an artist asking me to incorporate a cutting-edge production technique into their work.
Ultimately, it’s all about creating with taste and intention, but I’m equally driven by the thrill of pushing boundaries. Every project is a chance to innovate and explore new creative heights, and that’s what keeps me excited about what I do.
