Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Temeka Teshunda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Temeka, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
When I sent out a press release prematurely for a big client who was launching a book nationally, and who a globally recognized serial entrepreneur. And that’s not the kicker, after the error, what I didn’t know is that I went into to freeze perfectionist mode.
Trying so hard to correct the matter, that I made another error which ultimately led to the dissolution of the contract.
I was mortified by this; however, I learned that your coping mechanisms show up in your work.
Learning about my emotional intelligence and developing it was key to improve my self-awareness so I know how to respond to stressful moments that may have triggered core wounds of inadequacy.
The reality is we all, “those things,” in our personal portfolio that may show up professionally and as an entrepreneur they become more glaring. It is important to keep personal development, mindfulness, support groups, great mentors, a coach and yes too – therapy (if need be) in your toolkit to be able to manage things in your business.
Temeka, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I got into the business as a consultant, honestly . . . by my strategic management professor in undergrad. He formerly was a consultant, and I loved how we delved into case studies and was given the free reign to advise and decide best case scenarios and strategies. His course, inspired me to take a nudge in that direction.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That everyone has it together at the top and that people who get there, never had a, “helper.”
As I am learning, there is the mogul we see today, who got their big first line of credit to get the capital to really blossom into the marketplace or that Oprah is great all by her lonesome. She has an amazing team behind her and where she is limited, she hires people who are expansive in that space to make her brand great.
This idea that success is a solo all on you journey is a big fallacy, it is a pool of people, places, and precious ounces of grace from above that are helping leading people lead.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I decided to go full time into my business.
That pivot was a major one because I no longer had the comfort zone, I was used to.
If I decided not to work on the business or things were slow, it was easy to deviate.
Leaping full time cultivated growth that I can even begin to explain.
When you don’t have the job backing you anymore, you get the opportunity to see where you really are in terms of a business leader – where your blind spots are to say the least.
