We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Television Face a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Television Face, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our most meaningful project has been our current project, the Static EP. The band started just under 3 years ago now, with a very different lineup and a very different sound. Going through such drastic changes over the years with members quitting, frustration with the style, multiple different producers, and just constant change in both the band and our own personal lives, we’ve learned to adapt to any problem thrown at us. This EP is the product of our willingness to fight through that adversity and come out on top.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Television Face is an alternative rock band from North County San Diego. We not only love playing shows for our fans, but we try to create a platform for other bands in the music industry to connect. We recently put together a show called Never Again Fest in Carlsbad from the ground up, and it was a massive success. We were able to put both larger acts and smaller acts together into one setting and create an incredible show where everybody could have fun and every band was able to benefit. We want to continue to give back to this local music community that we love, a community that has given us so much over the years.
We also write and record our own music, with an EP coming out sometime later this year, as well as a music video we’re shooting out in the desert in August. Lots of exciting plans, and we can’t wait to share them with everybody.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Go out and see shows, buy merch, support your local music! Go on those deep dives to find the underground stuff, there are some absolute gems out there waiting for people to discover them. Nowadays the mainstream music scene is so saturated with overproduction, copy and paste, and overstimulation through social media that less and less people are doing those underground searches, less and less people care about these small shows. But in reality, some of the best shows, kindest people, and most enjoyable experiences are when you go to that house show, or hit up that small local venue.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s hard to pinpoint one single thing. One would be that feeling of listening to the final draft of an original song for the first time after recording and mixing. When you have that true passion for what you create, and you really put everything you have into it, you have that satisfying feeling of “this is it, this is the one” every single time. Another would be playing onstage and watching the crowd, especially when they know the words to your songs. Hearing a crowd sing along to something you wrote is an unbeatable feeling.
