We were lucky to catch up with Telesha Toney recently and have shared our conversation below.
Telesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
By nature I am naturally a giver. I founded Toney’s Accounting and Financial Services of course with the intent to generate extra income. However, my passion for helping and serves others is my driving factor. With my business, I am able to help others to bring their dreams and passions from paper to reality and also bring their business plans to life. I am able to empower new and existing entrepreneurs to register their businesses and to give them the necessary tools and knowledge that they can use to accurately and efficiently maintain the financial records of their business and contribute to the success of their businesses financial health.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am god fearing, self motivated and a lover of life. I am a mother of a beautiful 12 year old girl that is so full of life. I am a also an accounting officer by profession. My journey into the world of finance started with a strong background in banking, where I spent several years gaining invaluable experience in financial management, customer service, and compliance. Working in banking exposed me to the importance of accurate financial reporting, sound financial planning, and the challenges that individuals and small businesses face when navigating their financial health of their business.
After my time in banking, I noticed that many small business owners, entrepreneurs, and individuals struggled with managing their financial affairs. Whether it was maintaining accurate bookkeeping, or setting up a new business, I saw a gap that I could fill. This motivated me to establish Toney’s Accounting and Financial Services.
At Toney’s, we offer a wide range of business solutions for new and existing business owners, including business registration, post incorporation services , bookkeeping, tax preparation and procurement services . Because of my background in banking and accounting I am able to offer solutions that are both practical and tailored to each client’s situation.
What sets my business apart is our focus on making accounting services accessible and stress-free. We know that financial management can feel overwhelming, especially for small business owners, and our mission is to take that burden off their shoulders so they can focus on growing their business.
I am particularly proud of the relationships we’ve built with our clients. Seeing them succeed, knowing that we’ve helped them gain clarity and control over their finances, is incredibly fulfilling. For me, it’s about more than just balancing books or filing taxes, it is definitely about being a partner who helps clients build strong foundations for long-term success.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Quick back story I started building my social media audience thanks to a suggestion from my makeup artist, Jodi Balfour, who’s one of the best MUAs in the Caribbean. Some months before Covid hit, I used to go to her studio to create content for her business and we would make videos for her makeup page and it was there and then she encouraged me to use TikTok to create videos to promote my business. So I consistently did that and I also started doing videos on Instagram. And there and then my business took off and I started to get more engagement. Another great tip I got was from my friend, Abeni Taylor was to share my offerings with my what’s app contacts daily. She also pushed me to post frequently to keep my content visible and engaging.
For anyone just starting, my advice would be to:
1. Start with a clear purpose- You have to know what you want to achieve and how you want to present yourself.
2. Be consistent- Regular posting keeps your audience engaged and helps grow your presence.
3.Engage with your followers
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was faced with a situation that was triggering and altered my entire life roughly about three years ago. It left me severely depressed for months, and I felt like I was suffering in silence. Despite the emotional turmoil, life kept going on and my business was also growing rapidly at the same time so I had to keep pushing forward in my personal and professional life, even when it felt unbearable. I started going to therapy in order to help me to manage my emotions and to positively channel my energy. That experience taught me the importance of resilience. No matter how tough things get, showing up every day, even if it’s just one step at a time, helps you get through the storms that may come your way. Now I am stronger than I have ever been and a lot more focused.
