We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tejas Patel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tejas, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Prior to the pandemic, I had multiple business locations, a large number of team members and dentists working for me, and I was the main dental provider for my offices and I was approaching burnout. I was on a path that was not in line with my internal compass and true vision. So I made the decision to build the dental practice I had always dreamed of. One location, a small team, me as the lead cosmetic dentist, and seeing patients 4 days a week with several weeks off during the year. I started to take baby steps in this direction. It was difficult and stressful as we upset a lot of people and many people didn’t understand the changes we were making. And I was doubtful and second guessing the steps we were taking. Then, when the pandemic hit, it was like a complete reset and sped up the process. It just made me focus on the essentials and drive home for me to focus and build the practice I’ve always wanted.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a cosmetic dentist and I practice in Austin Texas. I’ve been a dentist for 20 years now. I help people improve their smiles and ultimately get more confidence. Because of our large social media following, we see patients not only from Austin and the state of Texas, we have people fly in from all over the USA to get their cosmetic dental work done by me and my team. I’m know for a cosmetic dental procedure called porcelain veneers. I also teach other dentists this procedure and about social media.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Social media has been essential in the growth of my business. As a provider of a cosmetic service. Social media, specifically Instagram and Tiktok have been extremely impactful to our growth.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I loved the books Storybrand and the book Essentialism. Essentialism helps focus your goals and vision. Storybrand helps focus your marketing message.
