We recently connected with Tej Khalsa and have shared our conversation below.
Tej, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Throughout life, I encountered many people going through a lot of pain and problems. When I studied Kundalini Yoga, I learned deep healing tools to erase the haunting thoughts in our subconscious — thoughts that have been imprinted in us from our childhood and beyond.
Kundalini Yoga teaches it’s our birthright to be happy. It teaches us to reformat our habitual ways of thinking about our lives and self.
And this is part of my personal mission – to help others walk tall in confidence, self-respect and grace with the help of these ancient yogic teachings.

Tej, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got my Master’s in Counseling from USC in my 20’s and then started my Kundalini Yoga and meditation practice and experienced profound healing. They are a great complement to one another. I discovered as the body releases deep stress, a new strength and awareness is gained.
In 2013 I opened my “Nine Treasures Yoga” center and thousands of seekers have come through our doors. We’ve developed a community that helps support one another.
We closed during the pandemic, & immediately started “TejTV” — online kundalini yoga and meditation classes. People from all over the world tune in daily from the sanctity of their own homes.
I became an Archivist for this ancient science, and constantly present unique and little known teachings. Teachers will study with me to discover their own depth and maturity, thus enhancing their classes as well as their lives.
My goal is to help people develop a neutral calmness so we can act, and not react, finding our own inner wisdom and happiness.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have had to move my yoga center several times due to countless unforeseen circumstances.
The first was: we were displaced due to the location being purchased and demolished. I knew it was coming but I couldn’t find an affordable space. The day the notice came, I closed my eyes and started a strong mental focus for the universe to find a new location. That day a man walked in and offered a space in his gym, which we took him up on.
The day the pandemic shut things down, six people showed up and began our journey to online classes. Even a private home was offered to film out of.
I think a positive and strong mental vision towards what you need is crucial. Then it is a step-by-step journey towards that goal, sometimes stumbling but then regrouping and continuing onward. I try to remember that things are not always fixed immediately or overnight. But a strong commitment and a flexibility to change gears when needed is often helpful. It’s like when you walk along the ocean and a wave.suddenly comes at you — just jump to the side and let it subside; then jump back and keep walking.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth seems to work the best. And to build business, having a sincere interest in others is really helpful. Sincere and honest is key. People are getting more and more sensitive to that. But you have to know how to gracefully set your own boundaries when things are too much.
