We were lucky to catch up with Tegan Galipeau recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tegan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I was lucky to start my career early through my high school’s cosmetology program. While most of my friends were stressing over college applications, I was already behind the chair, doing what I loved. But I’d be lying if I said I never wondered what it would be like to take the more “traditional” route.
I remember right after graduation, scrolling through social media and seeing everyone moving into dorms, decorating their tiny college apartments, and experiencing that classic freshman-year excitement. For a second, I thought, Did I miss out? Would life be easier if I had gone to college, landed a typical 9-to-5, and followed a more structured path?
That doubt didn’t last long. The next day, I walked into the salon, ready for a packed schedule of clients who trusted me to make them feel their best. I was building real connections, honing my craft, and making a living doing something I genuinely loved. That’s when it clicked—I wasn’t missing out. I had already found my passion, and not everyone can say that so early on.
Being a hairstylist has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. It’s taught me discipline, confidence, and independence at such a young age. Looking back, I have zero regrets. I took a different path, but it was the right one for me!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My love for hairstyling started on the softball field, where I became known for my game-day braids. That passion led me to my high school’s cosmetology program, allowing me to start my career early. I took full advantage of the opportunity, building confidence and defining my path before even graduating.
I specialize in high-impact blonding and color correction, helping clients go from dark to bright blonde in a healthy way. I also work with dimensional brunettes, since as a brunette myself, I know how important subtle brightness can be. Beyond color, I’m certified in hand-tied extensions and seamless tape-ins from Hair Lingerie, offering both length and volume to clients who need a confidence boost—whether due to fine hair or hair loss. Having alopecia myself, I know firsthand how extensions can be life-changing.
Hair integrity is my top priority, which is why I always prep my blonding clients with K18 and customize every placement for their unique hair type. My chair is a positive, high-energy space, where I prioritize education, realistic expectations, and a luxury experience—including my signature head massage during the hair wash.
I take pride in how far I’ve come, continuously educating myself to provide the best for my clients. My long-term goal? Salon ownership and education. I want to mentor the next generation of hairstylists, just like I was inspired by those before me. Every transformation fuels my passion, and I’m grateful every day to be doing what I love.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I take pride in how hard I’ve worked to push myself in my craft. For me, hairstyling isn’t just a job—it’s a passion that extends beyond the salon. I’m constantly learning, refining my skills, and staying ahead of industry trends to give my clients the best possible experience.
My biggest goal is to own my own salon and eventually expand to multiple locations. Beyond that, education is a huge part of my vision. I want to mentor and inspire future hairstylists the same way I was inspired by those who came before me.
At the core of everything I do is the belief that great hair can transform confidence. Every day, I’m grateful to be in a career where I get to help people feel their best—and that’s what drives me forward.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had known earlier just how much free education is available in this industry. Growing up in the age of social media, I’ve realized that there’s an endless amount of knowledge at our fingertips—whether it’s through Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or industry professionals sharing their expertise. You can learn everything from new coloring techniques to business strategies without ever stepping into a classroom.
That being said, while free education is an incredible resource, it’s important to know how to filter through the information and invest in high-quality education when needed. Some of the best techniques require hands-on training, and taking the time to learn from experienced educators can make a huge difference in your skill set.
This industry requires passion, dedication, and continuous learning. There are always new tools, techniques, and trends emerging, and the more you invest in your education—whether free or paid—the better you can serve your clients and grow as a stylist. Staying open to learning is the key to long-term success in this field.
