We recently connected with Teela Maxwell and have shared our conversation below.
Teela , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At Fitness To A T, my mission is to empower individuals to transform their lives through health and wellness. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, I understand the challenges of overcoming obstacles and breaking free from unhealthy cycles. My goal is to provide support, guidance, and resources to help clients achieve their fitness goals, no matter their starting point. I believe in the power of small, consistent steps towards a healthier lifestyle, and I am committed to fostering a community of resilience, determination, and support. “Together, we can rewrite our stories, prioritize our health, and create a brighter future for ourselves and our families.”
My Mission Statement has evolved overtime I found myself in a challenging situation as a young single mom, balancing the responsibilities of parenthood while also striving to build a better future for myself and my children. I also struggled with weight issues and faced the daunting reality of my own family’s health history, particularly witnessing my grandmother’s battles with high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney failure. I was determined not to subject my own children to the same experiences, so I resolved to break free from this cycle. While along the way I developed and added more services from just teaching fitness classes to now being a full encompassing Health and Wellness Business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My career not only provided financial stability but also brought immense fulfillment. Empowering others to take charge of their health filled me with joy. As I looked at my children, I knew I had made the right choice—to prioritize my well-being, follow my passion, and forge a brighter future for my family.
Within the past 15 years, I’ve dedicated myself to continuous learning and growth. I’ve earned over 10 certifications, and expanded my expertise to become a CPR Trainer, and gained recognition as an International Fitness Presenter. However, my proudest achievement is becoming a National Master Trainer for MixxedFit, which has become my primary format and my claim to fame in Kansas City.Back in 2015, I was among the first instructors to teach MixxedFit in the Kansas City area, laying the foundation for its popularity and success. This journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and dedication. I’ve strived to not only transform my own life but also to inspire others to pursue their own path to health and wellness.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’ve remained relevant in the industry by staying committed to personal growth and fostering strong relationships within the fitness community. I’ve honed my craft and stayed at the forefront of industry trends.
To give back and stay connected, I host free classes and actively participate in community initiatives and events. These efforts not only benefit the community but also deepen my connection to those I serve. By prioritizing continuous learning, relationship-building, and community involvement, I ensure that my passion for fitness remains vibrant and impactful.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I truly believe in the power of personal development. It’s been instrumental in shaping my journey and guiding me towards growth. I’ve found immense value in books like ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz, which taught me about the importance of personal integrity and self-awareness. ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear has been a game-changer for me in understanding how small habits can lead to significant changes over time.
Anything from Brene Brown resonates deeply with me; her insights on vulnerability, courage, and shame have helped me navigate life’s challenges with authenticity and resilience. And of course, Mel Robbins’ work, particularly ‘The 5 Second Rule,’ has inspired me to take action and overcome procrastination.
These books have not only provided me with practical strategies for personal growth but have also enriched my perspective on life and relationships. I’m constantly seeking out new resources to continue my journey of self-discovery and development.”
