We were lucky to catch up with TeeCee Cribb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi TeeCee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking a risk. Deciding to step out on faith and walk in my calling. A urge was rising in me to create a women’s empowerment event. But, not just the typical conference. Something, that would encourage women to come together, create a spiritual community, develop a relationship with God, understand it’s okay to be transparent and authentic, creating connections and networks. Fear took a seat and just rested on my chest and mind. You know, the voices started ringing loud in my head of the typical you’re not qualified, girllllll people are going to rip you a part, you’re not a minister. Then, another voice came through … You can do this, you’re made for this. Did Jesus have a piece of paper, did His disciples have credentials and what type of lifestyles did they have when he picked them.
For UNITEE: Rise, Shine and Thrive (FURSTT) Women Empowerment Conference kicked off in ATL in March. Another piece was added after speaking with my good sister Dr. T. (U1st Media) Creating a platform for female artist in Gospel Hip-Hop and spoken word. So, together with her we added the FURSTT Gospel Praise Concert. Having both events gave the women who were speaking, performing and attendees an experience.
The risk was definitely stepping out on faith without resources, as well as two women coming together to create an additional element to the vision. Two women recognizing it’s not about either of us, but about the Kingdom and the women needing the message, as well as healing.
TeeCee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I previously was in Public Relations. Later, I was speaking with someone about the desire to start a YouTube Talk (For UNITEE with TeeCee) Show. It happened so fast, I put it out there and request to come on the show started flowing in. Next, I mentioned to another friend about the desire to go into radio and from that came Morning Love with TeeCee Show on New Praise Radio every Saturday at 8-11AM EST.
Even with the shows, I wanted to spread love, joy and light. I have a huge desire for people to fully understand we all have a seat at the table. There are no perfect people and we all have done things intentionally, as well as unintentionally. But, there’s a space and place for us. We have to start uniting and that’s the way to elevating. We have to learn to be inclusive and embrace everyone removing the judgement and/or superior attitudes. Faith-based and mainstream can operate together. We are all God’s children.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
People don’t recognize that ministry is operating in a creative space and mindset. But, the biggest thing we fail to remember is the passion. Hold to the why we’re doing this, who are we doing it for and what are we doing it for. When you have passion, all the other components will fall into place. For me the most rewarding aspect is reaching people and giving them a message that’s fulfilling.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The biggest thing to support them is to engage with them. Don’t just scroll past their post on social media, but give a response, give feedback, give encouragement, share what you see. Tell other people about the creatives you come in contact with to help build them. Attend events when they are a part of. Expand expand expand. Don’t just look to the same creatives, but introduce your palette to the new. Expand your palette and be open.
