We were lucky to catch up with Ted Sueyoshi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ted, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
There are times in your life that you always tend to look back to. It may be your family vacation, wedding, prom, etc. Some people would rather keep them in their memory and some might want to have those moments captured. This may sound cliche but if I could be a part of your memory making whether it is me doing photoshoot for the moments or teaching how to take Milky Way images, I would be so honored that you have picked me to be a part of it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
When I was a kid, I took an art class once week for several years. I liked creating the world on canvas or paper with no limits. When I graduated high school, I went away from it. After college, I picked it back up and started drawing and painting again as I had more time to do so. However, I wanted to get outside rather than spending time inside the studio. I decided to pick up a camera and create my own world in a digital form rather than on canvus. For drawing and painting, typically you use white paper or canvus and colors to create. But in photography and videography, you paint with light. There is no right or wrong answer to it. You can create whatever you would like. To make it your business, you have to create something that other people also like. When I see my customers go “wow” when they look at what I create, that puts the hugest smile on my face (: I love capturing happy moments like graduation, senior photos, engagements, as well as natural wonder such as the Milky Way and northern lights. I also love capturing special things that some people can do that I can never do such as dance photography. Those are all too amazing not to share with other people how to do what I do (:
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think it all depends. Some people may say it will destroy the art industry. Some may say it expands the horizon. Both of these are right to some extent. I do have NFTs. But I sell more prints than NFTs. If it fits you, go for it. If it’s not your thing, then , it isn’t. People would still go to museums and buy prints. At the same time, NFTs will bring whole other potentials.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Whenever I can put a smile on people’s face through my creation or whenever my art put a whole different perspective in someone else’s life. Hope people can see how I look at tiny myself in the huge universe through what I create.
