We were lucky to catch up with Ted Phaeton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ted, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Big boys don’t cry…
It’s a statement we hear all too often as young men growing up. Because of that, many men never truly learn how to navigate their emotions and face their problems. This has led to countless issues when it comes to mental health.
Whether it be men facing addiction or the fact that men commit suicide three and a half times more often than women, the signs are clear… Our Men Are Desperately Crying For Help!
Rather than talk about the problems, we aim to be the solution. The Modern Man was founded with a vision of connecting men in pursuit of their potential.
Not only are men feeling overlooked and undervalued, they’re also feeling lost and confused about how to show up in today’s society.
The Modern Man helps men create deep meaningful relationships around growth and self development. We help men identify their gifts, find their purpose, and make an impact.
It’s all about elevating our capacity for life. The problems don’t get bigger. We simply get better. With community, we as men can support each other through the storms of life and celebrate under the sun.

Ted, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ted Phaeton. I’m a husband, dog dad, loving son, High-Performance Men’s Coach, Morning Meteorologist, and Podcast Host. I’ve always seeked the mentorship and guidance of those ahead of me and have greatly benefited from amazing men in my life. From my father to my uncles, cousins, and friends, I’ve always been surrounded by wisdom beyond my own. When I first got started in my career, I struggled to replicate that environment in every city I moved to.
Finally after living in Greenville, SC for 8 years, I established that foundation. This would eventually be the base of what became The Modern Man. The podcast continues to discuss the ways we as men can elevate our capacity for life and be confident and reliable to those that depend on us.
Through my coaching, I help men identify their roadblocks, pull back the curtains of limiting beliefs, and identify vulnerabilities and potential flanks. It’s all about helping my clients live an optimized life that allows them to excel in all areas of life.
Our Mastermind Group called The Noble Knights meets every Wednesday evening at 6 PM EST and continues to grow each week. Each week we share our successes, challenges, and actions. Hearing the progress and success these guys are having is truly the most rewarding part of The Modern Man.
I’m thankful for how far the mission has come so far and can’t wait to see how it grows in the years to come.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Ahh Covid 19… The wrench in just about everyone’s business.
We had just celebrated our third and biggest in person conference at the end of January 2020. Sponsors were already locked in for the next conference in April and the deposit was already paid for the venue. As we all know, March of that year, everything shut down.
The Modern Man was forced to go digital and completely change the delivery of the valuable content and discussions we facilitate. Going digital force me to be creative and resourceful, turning my friends music studio into a video streaming studio. We aired our first virtual conference August of that year with a nationwide audience for the first time! In person, we only had exposure to the Carolinas.
During the Pandemic, we hosted two virtual conferences, launched our Youtube Channel, Redesigned our Website, and pivoted to producing The Modern Man Podcast which still continues to grow to this day.
The lessons learned during the pandemic were resilience, resourcefulness, and self confidence. The challenges that came about during those two years have made me a better business owner and man.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Books, podcasts, and mentors have been my cheat code…
When it comes to books, it depends on the specific thing you want to learn. Just know that whatever roadblock or challenge you’re facing in your business, there is a book for that. I’ll share a few that I think can help most entrepreneurs & business owners.
The first book I’d recommend would be The E Myth by Michael E. Gerber. This is a great book that will help someone understand the importance of systems and processes when building a business.
Second, I’d recommend Start with Why by Simon Sinek. IF you haven’t seen his amazingly popular Ted Talk I’ll sum it up with this… People don’t by what you do, they buy why you do it.
Third, I’d recommend Deep Work by Cal Newport to highlight the value and secrets of getting into flow state and committing to a project through undistracted work.
Finally, I’d be remissied if I didn’t mention $100M Offers by Alex Hormozi. The tagline is How to Make Offers So Good PEople Feel Stupid Saying No. If that’s not enough to intrigue you, I don’t know what will.
Those have been a few of my favorites and ones that I believe should apply to most people taking the time to read this!
