Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ted Page. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ted, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project is the writing of Good Grandpa: Stories from the Heart of Grandfatherhood, which will be published by Regalo Press September 2nd and distributed by Simon & Schuster. The backstory is that when I became a grandpa about 10 years ago, I could find nothing to help me navigate this new life landscape. Everyone on the web was about the movie Bad Grandpa. So I started a blog called Good Grandpa to tell my stories. Over time, other grandpas from all walks of life reached out to me to share there stories. For my book, I interviewed grandpas like Tom Brokaw, John Cleese (Python alum), vets from each branch of the military, religious leaders, pro athletes and many more. I’ve gathered my life stories and wisdom, along with theirs, to help nurture the next great generation.

Ted, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my career as a copywriter with McAnn-Erickson, one of the largest ad agencies in New York City. I found all the best, most edgy ads I came up with were never shown to the clients, so I started my own ad agency, called Captains of Industry. We made a name for ourselves during the viral video craze with productions starring the likes of John Cleese and Florence Henderson. Later, we created brands and marketing campaigns for clean energy companies. We launched what became known as “The Climate Declaration,” which encouraged CEOs to sign on to an initiative designed to convince the President of the United States to take action on climate change. President Obama mentioned the Declaration by name when he enacted rules to limit greenhouse gasses from power plants.
All of this was a prelude my to my life today as a grandfather, a role I consider my best job ever.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to nurture the next great generation. My parents were part of what Tom Brokaw called The Greatest Generation in his book. When I see my grandkids, I see an opportunity to help them be the best of all time. Mankind has set its sights on traveling to Mars and beyond. That’s all well and good. But I think we should also unpack all the building blocks of how to make a good person — like kindness, decency, honesty, wisdom — and help our grandkids learn these things. They are the future.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I went through a period at Captains of Industry that was incredibly stressful and as a result I had all kinds of health problems. I keep a Google doc To Do list, and the top of my list changed from daily work tasks to my new priority: My health. I totally changed my life and ended up being much happier and more prosperous.
