We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ted Chin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ted, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve shown a lot of interest in art since I was young. I somewhat knew I wanted to pursue being an artist full-time back in high school or college. The main question would be: How? What kind of art do I want to do, what medium do I want to use, and how can I make this happen?
I’ve tried many different mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpting, graphic design, 3D art, photography, etc.
After college, I moved to San Francisco to pursue 3D animation but ended up becoming more interested in photography and graphic design. Using the knowledge I gained from filmmaking and photography, I started my project—TedsLittleDream. There, I create fantasy surreal art scenes and escape reality with my imagination.
By sharing my art with audience online, I start to gain more attention and landed my first gig. That’s when I realize that this could work as my career and I start working with agency and more clients from that point.

Ted, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hi, My name is Ted, aka TedsLIttleDream. I’m a surreal artist and photographer based in San Francisco. My work is focusing on creating fantasy surreal dream world and use my art for impact in environmental conservation projects or take a design challenge by working with brands to create creative advertising.
If you used photoshop in 2021, you might of seen my work as the flamingo cloud cover art when you open Adobe photoshop program.
My desire is to capture and communicate the captivating wonder and beauty of the world, inspiring viewers with imaginative artwork.
Right now I focusing on making my first ever solo show this year in October in San Francisco, while taking jobs with different clients for photography and design.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, I wish there was an easier way to access or understand the business side of art. for example, how to work with clients , pitching ideas, pricing your service, social media, marketing …etc
As an artist we learn how to become better at our craft, but most of the time school didn’t teach us how to market our work and become a full time artist.
I wish we could share more knowledge about this with young artists.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I hope to become artist that work with more gallery and have more show, or even art tour around the world with my sculptures or surreal design. It would be a dream to make that happen and introduce more people to surrealism and fantasy fine art.
