We were lucky to catch up with Tebreena Hall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tebreena, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My younger sister, Breneesha, and I were raised in a two parent household in Metcalfe, MS. For over half of my childhood, my parents, Terry and Brendolyn Washington, were entrepreneurs in Greenville, MS. Through their businesses, they created multiple training facilities for their then employees to grow and become supervisors later on throughout their individual careers. They taught me the importance of honor and respect. They taught me that hard work and consistency were essential, especially, when running a business. They exposed me to different people and businesses. They trained me in customer service. They allowed me to see what life could be like working for myself. They showed me what it looked like to take risks, but above all, they also taught me the importance of building my relationship with God. Because years later, once I decided to follow in their footsteps and have my own business, one thing that was clear to me – people are interesting. And the ONLY way to be able to successfully service them is to have a relationship with God.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I was in elementary school, I was asked what I wanted to do when I grew up. I told them that I wanted to do nails, and I was told to do something different because I was ‘too smart’ for that. During that time, I was confused and discouraged, so I went down another route, but I always found myself doing nails throughout my early life. I started doing pedicures when I was a teenager, and once I became an adult, I started back doing my own nails and feet off and on.
Once the pandemic hit in March of 2020, I decided that I would start back doing my own nails and feet. Before I knew it, I stepped out on faith, with the support of my husband, Joshua, my parents, family, church family, and friends, and I ended up back in school. I graduated, got licensed, and started working. God kept opening so many doors for me, things kept happening so fast, and I started my business shortly after.
I own Breena’s Tips Nail Services in Greenville, MS. I specialize in restoring the natural nail. I provide spa services for men, women, and children. I wanted to create a place where each individual client is able to relax and be treated with dignity and respect.
Over time, I have learned to spread my clients’ appointments out throughout the day so that they do not feel as if I am rushing them out of my chair. My business is a little different because I take my time to establish a rapport with my clients in order to cater to their individual needs. When they step through my door, I see an individual – not a dollar sign so to speak.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Expect you from other people. . . I had to unlearn that lesson. Why? Because in reality, that is not always the case. If I tell someone that I am going to do something, I do it. I tell someone, I am going to be somewhere, I show up. If something unexpected happens, and I cannot make it, I will contact the required contact. I try my best to treat others with dignity and respect, regardless of who they are. When working with others, those things do not always happen. I will not go into detail about all of that, but if you service or have serviced other people in some form or fashion, you know exactly what I mean.
I have remembered and reinforced what I was taught. I was taught to support those that support me, don’t sweat the small stuff, don’t become bitter, and keep pushing.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Believe it or not – WORD OF MOUTH! I have done social media as well as a television commercial, but the best and fastest way that built my reputation within my market has been word of mouth.
