We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful TeaYaMay. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with TeaYaMay below.
Hi TeaYaMay, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve loved music since I was little. My mom said I would dance in my car seat to “Push It” by Salt-n-Pepa. When I was old enough to have a cell phone I recorded my 1st rap on my answering machine. It went something like 216-5822 you called me I didn’t call you. I took a liking to poetry in school and always enjoyed the creativity in writing. I enjoy any opportunity to be creative but writing particularly intrigued me. I never pursued music seriously because I was shy and awkward. I wish I had more confidence growing up because maybe I could have started taking it seriously sooner and been a lot farther however I’m happy how things turned out. I feel like it’s essential to have a love for the craft because those who lack love often lack originality which shows in the music. I’m always open to learning more because If your not growing- your dying.
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got into your craft?
I got into the music business honestly to take revenge on my past, those who lied to me, played me, doubted me, miscounted me etc… I had low self esteem and didn’t have have the confidence to pursue it but I had a point to prove to myself, that I was worthy and I could be successful. When I first started out I thought being an artist was just recording and releasing music, I was definitely wrong. Being an artist requires discipline, dedication , long days and nights and sacrifice but it all comes down to how hard you work because everyone is looking to take your spot. I started taking it seriously since 2012 , I’ve accomplished a lot since then. I’ve done shows, headlined, co-headlined , multiple publications, interviews, won an award and even got one of my songs synced in a movie. The movie is called “Murder City” on Tubi and my song is called “New Booty” ( my song is playing in the background of the strip club scene haha).
I feel like what sets me apart from the rest is my depth and creativity. A lot of artists are completely shallow and it shows in their music.
I have new song dropping 11/17/23 called “ Lost Face” so definitely stay on the lookout for that. Also I just want to thank my team New West Management and Brandon Conner.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I’m still learning about them but one of my songs is ACTUALLY an NFT.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal and mission is to show lyrically conscious artists do exist. The industry is over saturated with artists who paid their way to the top rather than actually made it for their talent. Music should be more about content not appearance so I mix intelligence with elegance to add a different twist in the mix .
