We were lucky to catch up with Tearle Gaines recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tearle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
Sold a mixtape that I burned from my own recordings to a classmate in high school
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I began recording music in 2005. Creating renditions and remixes to popular songs for mixtapes. I later connected with local producers and beat makers to develop a more original sound. After 5-10 years of performing in the local circuit In Buffalo me and my collective created a music and art hub called “The Slime Shack” Mid 2020 I established an LLC “Slime Shack Records”. I release all of my work under that name to this date.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I once lost all of my music that I recorded between 2005-2013. It was on a laptop that was lost in transition between houses.. It inspired me to make more music that year and I released my first solo all original project titled Justcallmegaines later in 2013.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Appreciate artist for the person that they are. Not their level of popularity or just for their talents
